Author, Former Linfield Professor Dr. John Day Named PriceCatcher.com Person of the Year

Dr John Day, Linfield College Professor Emeritus of Physics, has been named the PriceCatcher.com Person of the Year for 2007.

(MCMINNVILLE, Ore.) - Dr. John Day of Linfield College Dr. John Day retired at the age of 91 after teaching for almost 50 years at Linfield College. He is a meteorologist, author, and national authority on weather. He is best known locally for 29 years of writing the News-Register column "Words on the Weather." Day taught at Oregon State University and at the University of the Redlands before coming to McMinnville to teach at Linfield.

"Dr. John Day is more than an author or college professor, he's McMinnville's own national treasure" said PriceCatcher.com Founder & CEO Ruben Contreras, Jr., in announcing this year's honor.

Oregon Highways Closed Due to Blowing Snow, Crashes

Motorists are advised to stay home if possible as other highway sections may be impacted by the storm.

(HEPPNER, Ore. ) - ODOT camera U.S. Highway 395 is closed south of Pilot Rock between Nye Junction near mile point 23 and Ukiah Junction near mile point 50.

Blowing snow is limiting visibility to near zero in some areas. A crashed vehicle is also blocking the roadway. Oregon Highway 207 is also closed west of Heppner between mile points 80 and 82.

Oregon State Police Make Child Sexual Exploitation Arrest

Anyone with information related to this case and the suspect is asked to contact Detective Cooney at (541) 567-3215.

(STANFIELD, Ore. ) - Arthur Wayne Blood A Stanfield-area man was arrested by Oregon State Police on allegations of sex abuse and child sexual exploitation.

The investigation led to the discovery of past videotaped sex abuse of young females, and there is concern of the possibility of other victims.

The charges are the result of a criminal investigation that began January 10th when OSP was contacted by one of two victims alleging the criminal conduct that occurred in 2001 when the victims were ages 15 and 16.

Police Need Help Locating Missing Oregon Man

Anyone who sees Paul Millard Upton should call 911.

(GRESHAM, Ore.) - Paul Millard Upton Gresham Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating a 70-year-old missing Gresham man who is in danger of suffering a stroke if he doesn't receive a dose of his medications.

Paul Millard Upton was last seen at 9:00 AM as he was leaving out the back door of Chestnut Lane, the assisted living facility where he lives at 1219 NE 6th, Gresham. Mr. Upton is deaf and his closest family is in Sutherlin, Ore.

Snow Advisory for Willamette Valley in Effect Through Tonight

Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are possible through this evening, with heavier amounts expected over 1000 feet.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - salem snowfall A Snow Advisory is in effect for the mid-Willamette Valley until 10:00 PM this evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, the latest storm system will move over Oregon today and tonight.

There will be a short period of time with rain mixed with snow on the valley floor through daybreak. The snow level will then rise to near 1000 feet later this morning before falling back to 500 feet later today and tonight.

Sisters Man Arrested for Attempting to Elude Police

The driver was arrested on charges of Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle, Reckless Driving, 3 counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person and DUII.

(SISTERS, Ore.) - Toyota van used in attempt to elude police A Sisters-area man was arrested early Sunday morning on multiple charges after police say he tried to elude an Oregon State Police trooper on Highway 20. The man was taken into custody after a Black Butte Ranch police office successfully deployed spike strips.

It apparently began at approximately 1:37 AM when OSP Trooper Sean Belding was at the scene of an abandoned motorhome on Highway 20 near milepost 83 preparing to have it towed as a hazard when a green 1995 Toyota Previa van drove past westbound.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Primaries 08 Primary Season 2008 in the heated race for the Presidency is almost at the halfway mark. This is an amazing maze we voters face. The lack of no incumbent president or v.p. running this time around leaves a power vacuum, with a pack of wolves hungry to fill this.

What are primaries all about? They are contest between presidential candidates, some truly viable and others less so. There are those who see themselves as self-anointed successors to hugely unpopular President Bush, while others are simply going through the motions and using the platform to "deliver a message".

Heavy Snow Warning Issued for Willamette Valley (VIDEO)

Weather experts say that during these conditions, you should only drive if it is absolutely necessary and also remember to bring a flashlight, food, water and even extra dry clothes and a blanket for maximum preparation.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Accuweather.com weather images A Heavy Snow Warning has been issued for the Willamette Valley of Oregon. Snow began falling in downtown Salem a little after 3:00 PM. The National Weather Service heavy snow warning will remain in effect until 4:00 PM Monday.

Today's rain and snow is expected to increase tonight and Monday. Today the snow level is close to 500 feet and it is expected to reach the valley floor tonight and Monday.
