OWN's mission is to create multiple platforms for women, men and their families with a purpose and a passion.

(CHICAGO) - In an unprecedented deal, Oprah Winfrey and Discovery Communications have announced plans to create "OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network."

The new multi-platform media venture will be designed to entertain, inform and inspire people to live their best lives. OWN will debut in 2009 in more than 70 million homes, on what is currently the Discovery Health Channel. The venture will also include the award-winning digital platform, Oprah.com.

Memorial Services Set for Oregon Soldier Killed in Iraq

(BEND, Ore.) - The Memorial arrangements have been set for Sgt. Zachary McBride, a U.S. Army soldier who lost his life in Sinsil, Iraq on January 9th 2008 when he was struck with the blast from an improvised explosive device.

The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 19th at 1:00 PM at the Eastmont Church located at 62425 Eagle Road, Bend, Oregon. As there is limited seating at the church the family has arranged for an Open Visitation at the Church on Friday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and again from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

(KABUL, Afghanistan) - The United Nations today called for a redoubling of efforts to bring stability to Afghanistan after yesterday’s deadly hotel suicide bombing targeting foreigners and Afghan civilians working together to help the violence-wracked country.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned "in the strongest possible terms" the attack, which killed at least eight people and injured a number of others at the Serena Hotel in Kabul, the capital.
