Suspect Arrested in Fatal Hit & Run Pedestrian Crash

It happened Monday on Highway 101 between Gold Beach and Brookings.

(BROOKINGS, Ore.) - Oregon Hit and Run suspect Jeremy Scott, 12-12-07 Oregon State Police and the the Curry County Sheriff's Office arrested a Brookings, Oregon area man on charges related to a fatal hit and run crash Monday morning, December 10th, that left an adult man dead on Highway 101 between Gold Beach and Brookings.

A citizen's tip based on media coverage led investigators to the involved vehicle and driver. The victim's name is still withheld pending next of kin notification.

Gabriel Allred Will Stay in Oregon

Agreement has been reached in the Gabriel Allred adoption case.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Gabriel Allred will remain with Steve and Angela Brandt in Oregon The Oregon Department of Human Services announced this evening that an agreement has been reached in the mediation between Gabriel Allred's paternal grandmother and his foster parents.

Gabriel, a 2-year-old child born in Oregon who holds dual U.S.-Mexican citizenship, has been at the heart of a contested adoption between his biological family in Mexico and his foster family in Oregon.

Former OLCC Retailer Arrested on Multiple Counts of Aggravated Theft

Michael Mollgaard was arrested at his Dallas-area home.

(DALLAS, Ore.) - Oregon liquor store owner 57-year old Michael Gene Mollgaard now faces multiple aggravated theft charges A Dallas, Oregon man was arrested by Oregon State Police Wednesday for unlawfully keeping approximately $180,000.00 of Oregon Liquor Control Commission liquor sales at his Dallas-area store.

57-year old Michael Gene Mollgaard now faces multiple aggravated theft charges over the allegations. Mollgaard was arrested on ten counts of first-degree Aggravated Theft following an indictment by the Polk County Grand Jury.

Dump Truck Crashes Into Home Injuring One Near Gervais

The dump truck traveled over 300 feet through a grass field before crashing into a manufactured home.

(GERVAIS, Ore.) - Photo of crash scene, Gervais, Oregon 12-12-07 The resident of a home near Gervais received minor injuries this morning when a dump truck crashed through the walls of her living space. Police investigating the case say the driver may have had a medical problem while driving.

The empty ten yard dump truck driven by 42-year old Scott J. Vanholland was westbound on Highway 219 near French Prairie Road at 10:30 AM when it failed to negotiate a curve, Oregon State Police Senior Trooper Mark Davie said.

State Assessment of Columbia County Flood Underway

The Columbia County Unmet Needs Committee is requesting that donations be made to the accounts set up at Wauna Federal Credit Union and US Bank.

(CLATSKANIE, Ore.) - Landslide in Columbia County, Oregon 12-11-07 Columbia County crews and staff from the Oregon Departments of Forestry and the Oregon Department of Transportation are working today to determine if there are any additional potential landslide sites.

A log jam on a creek-fed drainage gave way and produced a large debris slide that covered US Hwy 30 at milepost 68 on Tuesday. A second drainage area is being examined to determine whether it poses a slide threat.

FEMA Offers Disaster Unemployment Assistance

North coast workers may be eligible for disaster unemployment benefits.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon Governor Kulongoski during a recent visit to Vernonia With President Bush's declaration of Clatsop, Columbia, and Tillamook counties disaster areas, workers from those counties may be eligible for disaster unemployment assistance. The President made the declaration at the request of Governor Ted Kulongoski through the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA).

Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is a federal program that provides financial assistance to individuals whose employment or self-employment has been lost or interrupted as a direct result of a major disaster.

Venezuela`s Hugo Chavez A Winner In Congressional Energy Bill, Group Charges

The Partnership for America urges a no vote, saying it will raise consumer prices.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez An energy bill scheduled to be voted on tomorrow by the U.S. Congress will end up helping Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez more than U.S. consumers, a national grassroots group charged Wednesday.

“This bill is not good for the U.S., it's not good for American energy consumers, but it sure is pretty good for Hugo Chavez,” the group charged in a letter to Congress today. “The fact that Chavez will be treated better than U.S.-based companies illustrates the flawed principles on which this legislation is based.”

Teams Will Bring Influenza Vaccinations to the Poor

Volunteer project brings influenza vaccine to those in need.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Immunization  needles As winter approaches, Oregonians are reminded to get their annual influenza vaccination. Supplies are plentiful and widely available at public or private health clinics and local pharmacies, including those located in grocery stores.

But not everyone who needs a vaccination is able to get one. That group includes homeless, people who have no health insurance, live on a limited budget, are confined at home, speak a language other than English, or have limited access to medical care.

Sal Peralta Wants Corporate Kicker Law Repealed

If adopted, the measure would take the kicker law out of the state's constitution so lawmakers in later sessions may vote to repeal the law.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon State Capitol building Political activist and former Oregon House candidate Sal Peralta of McMinnville is trying to lay the groundwork for repealing the state’s corporate kicker law.

Corporations, under the law, receive tax rebates in budget cycles when state revenue collections exceed official projections by more than two percent, the Ashland Daily Tidings reported today.
