Crisis in Myanmar Tops Talks between United Nations and Cambodia

Mr. Gambari said he is grateful for the constructive discussions and feels that good cooperation has been established between the UN and Phnom Penh.

(UNITED NATIONS) - Cambodias Prime Minister Hun Sen Continuing his consultations with regional leaders, the Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Myanmar today conferred with Cambodia’s Foreign Minister on United Nations efforts to promote dialog and reconciliation between the Government and the opposition in the troubled South-East Asian nation.

Ibrahim Gambari met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong earlier today, UN spokesperson Michele Montas informed reporters in New York.

Smith Continues to Rally for Children`s Health Care

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Republican U.S. Senator Gordon Smith of Oregon Senator Gordon H. Smith joined health, child advocacy and public policy organizations in Oregon today to call on Congress to put partisanship aside and pass an important children’s health care measure.

The measure, the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), provides health care coverage to approximately 40,000 of Oregon’s children of low-income families. Reauthorization of the program would provide the funds needed to double the number of uninsured children in Oregon able to receive care.

Thousands Riot at Chinese Military Academy Over Diploma Status

Thousands of military academy students in central China’s Anhui province are rioting after news spread that the government wouldn’t recognize diplomas awarded to the fee-paying students, Radio Free Asia (RFA) reports.

(HONG KONG) - Chinese military academy students “It was total chaos. Many people were beaten and were bleeding. The school buildings are a mess,” one student, surnamed Peng, told RFA’s Mandarin service.

“There is a 15-story building on campus. It’s been vacated. The iron doors in the corridors were smashed. In the morning armed police and police cars arrived to restore order. Their attempts were futile. Police cars were overturned,” Peng said.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Megan Meier One of the most shocking stories about MySpace revealed so far is the suicidal saga of a little girl who was tricked by a neighbor's mom into thinking she was communicating with a boy in her age group.

As it turns out a neighbor, the mother of a teen herself, was posing as a teen boy and communicating with Megan on MySpace. When the character turned on her, the 13-year old hung herself. Now her parents and bloggers all over the nation are demanding justice.

Local Cops Hope to Make the Holidays Bright for Disadvantaged Youth

Oregon State Police employee Sabrina Owings believes this is a great opportunity to interact with children whom may only have had a negative experience with law enforcement.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - santa with child State troopers, county deputies, and city police officers are expecting to help over 500 kids shop for special gifts this holiday season in Linn, Benton and Marion counties as part of their area annual "Shop With a Cop" event at three locations in December.

For the 13th year, Corvallis and Albany-area police officers will shop together with local disadvantaged and foster children for Christmas gifts as part of a local program called "Shop With a Cop". Troopers, deputies and officers along with several professional staff from all involved agencies will shop with the children. There will also be a visit from Santa giving out candy canes and taking a minute for a photograph.

Information Released in Fatal Shooting Involving Two Washington County Deputies

Steve Stanturf was struck three times with bullets fired from the deputies rifles, they say he fired first and almost struck neighbors with a random bullet.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Shooting investigation Additional Information has been released on Saturday night's fatal deputy-involved shooting incident in Washington County. The deputies involved were Corporal Steve Schuster and Corporal Mark Trost.

Steve Schuster has been with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for nine and a half years. Corporal Mark Trost has been with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for six years.
