Snow Advisory Issued for Oregon Cascades, Coast Range

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - snow image The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a Snow Advisory until midnight tonight for the Oregon Coast Range and until 5:00 AM Thursday for the Oregon Cascades.

2 to 4 inches of snow is likely in the north and central coast range. For the Cascades, snow will continue through the night with snow falling above 2000 feet. The heaviest snow will fall between 6:00 PM and midnight, when 2 to 4 inches of new snow is expected.

Corvallis Woman Dies From Injuries Suffered in Crash

The victim who died, 55-year old Cheryl Jean Johnson of Corvallis, suffered critical injuries and was initially transported to Good Samaritan Hospital.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - Photo of Acura involved in fatal crash 11-26-07 near Corvallis, Oregon A Corvallis-area woman died early this morning from injuries she sustained in a Tuesday night two-vehicle crash on Highway 99W north of Corvallis.

Oregon State Police Spokesman Greg Hastings says that around 5:45 PM Monday, a 2005 Chevrolet Trail Blazer was towing an empty 12-foot flatbed trailer southbound on Highway 99W near milepost 80. "The trailer became detached from the vehicle, crossed the centerline and struck a northbound 2003 Acura RSX," Hastings said.

Depression Stalks Oregon Residents who Struggle for Food

Suicidal thoughts are also much more common among the food insecure, according to the report Empty Cupboards, Empty Feelings.

(SILVERTON, Ore.) - Image from a depression era American food line Oregonians struggling to put food on the table are more than twice as likely to suffer from depression than those with no such worries, according to a new report released today by the Oregon Center for Public Policy.

In response to a statewide telephone survey, one in three adults from households facing limited or uncertain availability of food -- what the federal government calls "food insecurity" -- reported being depressed, said the Silverton-based institute.

Oregon Forecasters Expect Slow Growth but Many Job Openings

Projections for Oregon’s 15 workforce regions show the fastest growth in Central Oregon and in counties near the Columbia Gorge.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Employee painting Today the Employment Department released its projections of employment for 2016.

The projections point to slow job growth in Oregon between 2006 and 2016 but many job openings due to the need to replace workers who leave their current occupations. The department’s forecasters expect economic growth to add more than 240,000 jobs, a gain of 14 percent over the decade.

The Employment Department projects educational and health services – buoyed by the state’s growing and aging population – to grow by 28 percent or by more than 57,000 jobs.

While these advisories are in effect at Rockaway Beach, visitors should avoid wading in nearby creeks or in discolored water, and stay clear of water runoff flowing into the ocean.

(ROCKAWAY BEACH, Ore.) - Rockaway Beach, Oregon A public health advisory was issued Wednesday due to higher-than-normal levels of bacteria in ocean waters at Rockaway Beach in Tillamook County.

Increased pathogen and fecal bacteria levels in waterways are common after heavy rain events, when runoff can wash pollutants into streams and rivers, and sanitary sewers may overflow.

Oregon State Police Seeking Driver in Fatal Hit and Run

The suspect vehicle, is described as an unknown year, dark colored, possibly a Ford Econoline van, with right front headlight assembly damage.

(GLADSTONE, Ore. ) - police search image An unidentified adult female in a wheelchair died Wednesday morning from injuries sustained when she was struck by a hit & run driver while attempting to cross Highway 99E (SE McGloughlin Blvd) between Jennings Avenue and Boardman Avenue.

At approximately 6:00 a.m. the victim got off a Tri-Met bus on the west side of Highway 99E and attempted to cross the highway during foggy, dark conditions. The victim was struck in the middle of the two southbound lanes and dragged approximately 100 feet in her wheelchair.

Jefferson Home Damaged by Fire

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

(JEFFERSON, Ore. ) - fire investigation Jefferson firefighters respond to a house fire at 453 Huron Court in Jefferson Tuesday evening.

The homeowner, Ynette Defehr arrived home, opened her garage door and noticed smoke. She felt the hot door handle that led into the house and knew she should not open the door. She immediately vacated and called 911. She saw flames through the living room window.
