(SALEM, Ore. ) - The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA), on behalf of the leading makers of over-the-counter (OTC) cough and cold medicines, announced the voluntary withdrawal of oral infant medications from store shelves.

The voluntary withdrawal of OTC oral infant cough and cold medicines was initiated by the makers of those medications out of an abundance of caution. This is not a mandatory recall or a safety issue.

Driver Dies When Car Strikes Tree at 96 MPH

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - Fatal crash investigators say a car struck a tree last night at just less than 100 MPH, instantly killing the driver. It happened after the car failed to make a curve in a 40 MPH zone.

State Sends Snowball to Molalla Elk Ranching Facility

According to state wildlife veterinarian Peregrine Wolff, the doe suffers from congenital and degenerative conditions, making her permanently disabled.

(MOLALLA, Ore. ) - Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife staff announced Wednesday that Snowball, the black-tailed doe removed from a private residence in Molalla where it was being illegally held, will be placed in Molalla at Rosse Posse Acres, an ODFW-licensed elk ranching facility, where she can receive the medical care she will need for the rest of her life.

The Ross’ raise a herd of about 90 elk on their 52-acre ranch, which is open to the public. Snowball will live in an enclosed area where she is safe and will receive regular veterinary care.

Problems Delay UN Peace Mission in Darfur

The Security Council is trying to quell the violence in Darfur, where more than 200,000 people have been killed and at least 2.2 million others forced to flee their homes since 2003.

(UNITED NATIONS) - The timeline for implementing the hybrid United Nations-African Union peacekeeping operation in Darfur is being delayed because of difficulties in obtaining land to house the mission offices and staff accommodations and problems relating to the list of troop-contributing countries, says Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

In his latest progress report on the mission, which is known as UNAMID, Mr. Ban writes that the UN is waiting for feedback from the Sudanese Government on the list of troop-contributing countries.

Oregon Agriculture Revenue Drops 9.6 Percent in 2006

(SALEM, Ore.) - A newly released economic snapshot of Oregon agriculture is a mixed bag of good news and bad news.

On the positive side, farmers and ranchers last year collectively recorded the highest gross income mark in the state's history at more than $4.8 billion. On the down side, operating expenses have also never been higher, and actually outstripped the gains made in production value and sales.

Oregon Troopers and Dispatch Supervisor Receive Lifesaving Award

(SALEM, Ore.) - Two Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division Troopers and a dispatch center supervisor received the "Harold R. Berg Lifesaving Award" for their efforts in helping find a 38-year old Florence-area woman missing for 7 1/2 hours in April after leaving work and driving off an area road to where it came to rest in heavy brush.

Window Shooting Suspects Busted in Salem

The action continued as police investigated, soon another incident led police to the suspects.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Police say they have received numerous reports over the past week of windows being broken, most likely shot out, during the evening hours. Salem Police Lt. Dave Okada says the incidents occurred throughout the City, and in some cases small metal balls were recovered at the scene.

"The total number of incidents is unknown at this time, but it is suspected that there are at least 20 incidents with damages estimated to be well over $15,000."

Good News for Oregon Food Stamp Recipients

More than 440,000 Oregonians receive food stamp benefits each month.

(SALEM, Ore.) - This month 228,000 Oregon households that receive food stamps also will receive good news: Their annual benefits will increase and the ceiling on earnings to qualify will rise.

For an individual receiving the maximum benefit, the monthly payment will increase by $7, from $155 to $162. Individuals can earn up to $1,107 in gross income, compared with $1,062 before October 1st.

Five Shot in Ohio School

The teen shooter was the only life lost when it was all over.

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) - Police in Cleveland, Ohio say a 14-year-old shooting suspect took his own life today after shooting five people down. It happened at a downtown Cleveland high school, where the shooter had been suspended Monday for fighting.

Other students identified the shooter, school officials confirmed that the boy was not supposed to attend school on that day.

Motorcyclist Dies in Hillsboro Crash (UPDATE)

The motorcycle rider has been identified as 20-year old Eric Joseph Stein, he had previously been identified as an 18 year old by police. The driver of the car has not been cited yet, but investigators are looking at charges of careless driving.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Hillsboro Police and Fire Departments were called to a motorcycle crash this morning just before noon. The crash claimed the life of the 20-year old rider. It happened on 185th Avenue just north of Walker Rd. in Hillsboro.
