Snow Advisory in Effect for Oregon Cascades

Salem weather forecast today: showers, chance of a thunderstorm later this afternoon, highs around 55.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The National Weather Service says a Snow Advisory remains in effect until 5:00 PM today for the north Oregon and south Washington Cascades.

Snow showers continue to move across the state this morning in a moist and unstable air mass. Snow levels today will range fron 3,000 to 3,500 feet. 2 to 5 inches of snow is possible today.

Democrats Blast Rush Limbaugh for Phony Soldiers Comment

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen is blasting conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh on his outrageous comment that soldiers who support withdrawing from Iraq are "phony soldiers".

Mark Mays, CEO of Clear Channel Communications Inc., which syndicates Limbaugh's radio program defended the talk-show host Wednesday, saying it's "unfair" to assume the comment was directed at combat troops opposing the Iraq war.

Seven Sturgeon Stolen from Bonneville Hatchery Pond

Nearly half a million people visit Bonneville hatchery annually to view the sturgeon ponds.

(CASCADE LOCKS, Ore.) - Police are seeking information to identify who is responsible for the theft of seven white sturgeon from Bonneville Hatchery last weekend. Both Oregon State Police and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife are involved in the case.

LA Group Camerashrapnel Will Visit Salem

With several performances under their belt, the innovative group embarks on their first west coast tour.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Los Angeles-based performing group Camerashrapnel will make a one-night stop in Salem as part of its upcoming west coast tour with its new show, “ISM.” The performance is slated for the Chemeketa College Auditorium on Saturday, October 13th, at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the door.

The troupe bills their work as a totally new form of teledramatic art. Camerashrapnel combines live performance and film to create a new genre of poetry and sketch comedy.

Oregon State Police Recognize Trooper of the Quarter

(ROSEBURG, Ore.) - An Oregon State Police Trooper assigned to Roseburg Area Command office was recognized Wednesday for his exceptional work when he was announced as the recipient of the "Trooper of the Quarter", an honor presented by the OSP Patrol Services Division to an OSP trooper from one of three regions each quarter of the calendar year.

Trooper Brian Assmus was presented the award by Captain Randie Martz, OSP's Southwest Region Commander. "During his brief two years with our Department, Trooper Assmus developed into the office leader for enforcement-related activities and has made a significant impact through his dedicated work, including numerous excellent narcotics-related cases in late 2006 and early 2007," Captain Martz said.

You must be between the ages of 18 to 60, meet the health guidelines, fill out a form, give a cheek cell swab, and be willing to donate to any patient in need.

Woodburn Man Arrested in Stabbing

Jose Rodriguez-Cano was arrested for second-degree Assault and for a Parole Violation.

(WOODBURN, Ore.) - Police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a Woodburn stabbing that happened last Thursday night at 8:30 PM. 27-year old Jose Rodriguez-Cano was taken into custody by Woodburn Police.

Local news reports indicate that the stabbing outside of the A&J Market on Thursday was preceded by a large gathering and a fight involving other people. The market is located on Front Street in Woodburn.

Keyes Excluded from Michigan Presidential Debate

Michigan conservative leaders say they are appalled at his exclusion from the October 9th event.

(DES MOINES, Iowa) - In the wake of the exclusion of presidential candidate Alan Keyes from next week’s Dearborn, Michigan, Presidential Debate, conservative leaders in the Wolverine State today criticized Michigan Republican Party Chairman Saul Anuzis, whose neutrality in the presidential race has been repeatedly called into question.

“I think it is shameful that someone with Dr. Alan Keyes’ experience in government and credentials in the conservative movement is being kept out of the debate,” said Judy Zabik, Genesee County Republican Party Board member. “Voters in Michigan and across the country deserve to hear what this man has to say about where this country is and where it’s going. He brings a principled, moral perspective to this race that nobody else brings.”
