PCC Program Named for Oregon Senator Margaret Carter

Cascade Campus President Algie Gatewood said much of the success for the Skill Center is a direct result of Carter's efforts, both as an academic and a lawmaker.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland Community College will honor state Senator Margaret Carter at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 9th, by naming a program in her honor at the Cascade Campus.

Carter, a longtime Oregon lawmaker, served as a councilor and faculty member at PCC Cascade and helped create the Skill Center, which has helped thousands of residents of North and Northeast Portland make their way into the workforce. As of Tuesday, it will become the Margaret Carter Skill Center. The event kicks off at 2:00 PM in the Moriarty Arts and Humanities Building, on the Cascade Campus, 705 N. Killingsworth Street.

Wanted Subject Captured in Lake Oswego‏

Police say Darrell Singleton was captured while committing another crime in Lake Oswego.

(LAKE OSWEGO, Ore.) - Police in Lake Oswego say Darrell Singleton, wanted on outstanding warrants by the Washington County Sheriff's Office, was arrested during the commission of additional new crimes here in Lake Oswego. A female accomplice was also arrested.

Lake Oswego Patrol Officer Clayton Simon says he found the two walking in a residential neighborhood a little after 4:00 AM. "The two were both carrying backpacks with the female also carrying multiple tennis rackets."

Jo Ann Davis Passing Mourned by President Bush

First elected to Congress in November of 2000, Jo Ann Davis brought to Washington a fresh perspective from outside the political Washington D.C. beltway.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis died at her Gloucester home this morning after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 57. Davis was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and had a re-occurrence earlier this year.

Davis had been receiving breast cancer treatment at Duke University and just recently had received positive reports on her condition. However, during the last week Davis’ health took a turn for the worse.

Fatal Crash Closes 99E South of Corvallis

At this point they advise that the highway is closed as they investigate the crash.

Oregon State Police say the fatal traffic crash is on Highway 99E near milepost 95 south of Corvallis.

Police Searching for Man Who Fled After High Speed Chase

Police have indentified the driver as 34-year-old Shane Lacoe of Eugene.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Eugene police are searching for a man who eluded them in a suspected stolen car after a high speed chase Wednesday night.

Eugene police say they stopped the chase near River Road, fearing for the public's safety. A short time later, the officers were nearly struck head on as the driver passed in the opposite direction.

Mitt Romney Tops $18 Million in Third Quarter

In the Third Quarter, Romney for President focused on growing its base of grassroots supporters and contributors.

(BOSTON) - Today, Romney for President announced it is expected to report over $18 million in total receipts for the Third Quarter, ending September 30, 2007.

The Campaign again opted to raise no general election funds and is expected to report $10 million in primary contributions. The total receipts include Governor Romney's loan of $8.5 million.

Governor Orders Flags at Half-Staff in Memory of Oregon Soldier

According to the Governor's office, 98 soldiers from Oregon, or with ties to Oregon, have died in Afghanistan or Iraq.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski has ordered all flags at public institutions in Oregon be flown at half-staff on Friday in honor of Army Cpl. Graham McMahon.

The 22-year-old from Independence died Sept. 19th from respiratory failure in Balad, Iraq.

Ron Paul Campaign Raises Over $5 Million in Third Quarter

(ARLINGTON, Va) - The Ron Paul 2008 presidential campaign raised $5,080,000 during the third quarter of 2007. That is an impressive 114 percent increase from the second quarter.

Paul's 114 percent increase is in stark contrast to the decrease suffered by Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, and John McCain.
