Governor Calls for Assistance for Consumers Who Face Foreclosure

Governor says loans should be designed for success, not failure.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Governor Kulongoski has announced several initiatives to help Oregonians who may be facing mortgage foreclosure due to the recent tightening in the subprime lending market.

Oregon’s housing market remains strong, but the state has seen an increasing number of foreclosures and that may continue as many borrowers with subprime adjustable rate mortgages see their interest rates increase and are unable to refinance.

Albany Man Arrested for Allegedly Raping Mentally Disabled Woman

Barbara Jane Steele, 48, of Albany, was also arrested after she lied to investigators about the suspects whereabouts.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller reports his detectives are investigating the rape and sexual abuse of a Harrisburg woman.

On August 10th at approximately 8:45 PM, a mentally disabled woman left her group care home in Albany and walked to a convenience store. She met a man she didn’t know and left in his vehicle.

On September 12th, deputies arrested Richard Scott Eshbaugh, 33, of Albany, on charges of First Degree Sex Abuse and First Degree Rape.

Boil Tap Water Alert Issued for Dayton, Oregon

Officials anticipate the problem will be resolved by Sunday.

(DAYTON, Ore. ) - Dayton residents are being advised to boil their drinking water after city officials found fecal coliform bacteria in the water supply Sept. 12th.

Officials say residents should bring all water to a boil, boil it for one minute, and let it cool before using it.

City workers are testing water from each of the city's wells, increasing chlorine levels, and flushing water system lines.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - When I read in the Oregonian newspaper on August 29, about the use of “(Battle) Exposure Therapy” to treat PTSD I was flabbergasted and does not come easy for a World War II frontline Combat Infantryman with experience as a “pointman”, scout and forward observer. I have not only seen but have been over-active in the Hell of Battle.

This program thinks that subjecting Iraq PTSD combat veterans to the terror of full-scale battle sounds can “desensitize” PTSD vets to the terrors of battle. It makes my flesh creep and the hairs stand-up on my neck; and I’m 60 years from battle.

Oregon POW-MIA Recognition Day to be Proclaimed September 21st

Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs Director Jim Willis said more than 88,000 Americans remain missing and unaccounted for.

(Salem-News.com) - The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs announced today that Governor Ted Kulongoski has proclaimed Friday, September 21st, to be “POW-MIA Recognition Day” in the state. The proclamation honors the service and sacrifice of American military personnel who have either been captured, held as prisoners of war, or who remain missing in action.

Oregon’s observance will coincide with the National POW-MIA Recognition Day that is celebrated annually on the third Friday in September.

Electricity-Related Accidents Decline Slightly in 2006 According to PUC Report

The Oregon PUC watches over electric power line safety throughout the State.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The number of people injured after being shocked by power lines declined slightly in 2006 compared with the year before. Additionally none were killed according to an annual report prepared by the Oregon Public Utility Commission.

Of the 13 people who were injured, most were work-related. That is in keeping with historical trends since 1997. Eight had to go to the hospital, five were considered minor injuries. Power line accidents injured 14 people in 2005.

Two-Alarm Fire in Beaverton Apartment Displaces Twenty Tenants

Approximately 20 people displaced by the fire are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

(BEAVERTON, Ore.) - An aggressive fire attack on the part of firefighters is credited for minimizing damage to a Beaverton apartment building, as well as tenants' belongings in adjacent apartments.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue responded to an apartment fire around 11:20 AM today at the Brentwood Court Apartments located at 3298 SW 125th Avenue in Beaverton.

Salem Police Officer Involved in Fatal August Shooting‏ Cleared by Grand Jury

The police officer says the man attacked him as he tried to handcuff him, and htat the fatal bullets were fired after two taser shots.

(SALEM, Ore.) - A Marion County Grand Jury found today that the police officer shooting of Cesar Alejandro Gonzalez-Meza was a lawful use of deadly force. Deputy District Attorney Don Abar presented the case for the Marion County District Attorney's Office.

Salem Police Officer John Humphreys shot Gonzalez-Meza twice at close range in the upper left chest area on August 13th of this year. Mr. Gonzalez-Meza died at the scene.

Plan Ahead for Heavier-Than-Normal Traffic This Saturday on Interstate 5

It is university football weekend and police say motorists should expect delays.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Motorists traveling to or through the Willamette Valley on this Saturday should anticipate heavy traffic and congestion related problems especially along Interstate 5 and secondary highways leading to the area, some of which will be fans flocking to Eugene and Corvallis for football games from many different directions.

Oregon State Police troopers will be working with local county sheriff's and city police agencies to handle traffic-related issues throughout Saturday with special focus on Interstate 5 in the Salem area south through Eugene.
