Threat of Job Loss Makes Workers Less Creative, More Productive‏

Research suggests that although productivity does increase, employees' creative problem solving skills are hampered. This might mean that the very creativity and flexibility that is hoped for as a goal of downsizing might not materialize.

(Vancouver, Wash.) - Worrying about losing their jobs might make workers more productive, but also less creative. This is the finding of Tahira Probst from Washington State University Vancouver and colleagues*. The research was published in the Aug. 26th Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology

Theories that leaner companies are more adaptable and therefore more competitive in today's fast paced market have led to a trend in downsizing of companies. Probst and colleagues researched the effects that the resulting job insecurity had on employees' job performance.

Senate Adopts Procedure for Introducing Bills for February 2008 Supplemental Session

The changes affect five specific areas.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Oregon State Senate voted unanimously today to establish the procedure by which members will draft and introduce legislation for consideration during the ground-breaking 2008 Supplemental Legislative Session.


"These procedures—developed in close consultation with both Senate Republican and Senate Democratic leaders—will ensure a short session, narrowly focused on the most pressing issues facing Oregonians," said Senate President Peter Courtney.

Gas Main Break Forces Downtown Portland Evacuations

Traffic is not affected by the leak.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - A gas leak Thursday afternoon caused some downtown Portland buildings to evacuate.

The gas main is located at 621 S.W. Yamhill.

A construction crew working near Pioneer Square hit a Northwest Natural Gas line, according to Portland fire officials.

BREAKING NEWS: 9-1-1 Outage in Clackamas, Marion, Polk and Yamhill Counties

Woodburn and Gervais residents are also affected.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - 9-1-1 is down in portions of Clackamas and northern Marion County.

People are being encouraged to use their cell phones for 9-1-1 service instead of calling the fire stations.

Attempted Murder Suspect in Mt. Angel Shooting Arrested‏

Nathanael Puckey was arrested for Attempted Murder, Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use Of Weapon, Felony in Possession of a Firearm, and Recklessly Endangering.

(SALEM, Ore.) - A man police considered armed and dangerous over an attempted murder in Mount Angel on September 5th, has been arrested by Marion County deputies.

Lt. Bob Stai with the Marion County Sheriff's Office, says Street Crime detectives and SWAT members arrested 24-year old Nathanael Luar Puckey at 11:00 PM Thursday.

Fight in Oregon Prisoner Transport Van Leads to Several Injuries

The names of the inmates involved are Terry Meads, William Cummings, Brandon Burk, Dustin Winkles, Sterling Bond. The name of the prisoner who was attacked is not being released.

(TROUTDALE, Ore.) - Oregon Corrections officials say several inmates who were being transferred between two Oregon prisons this morning attacked a fellow inmate in an Oregon Department of Corrections transport van on I-84 near milepost 13 in Troutdale.

Meetings Set for Draft Plan for Silver Falls State Park
