Oregon Students Commit to Ongoing Support for Thai Kids

One of many groups of people that could prey on Thai children are traffickers who deceive, detain and sell them to brothel owners. One Oregon group is making a difference.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Just days after Westside Christian High School wrapped up another school year, 21 students and a handful of adults boarded a plane headed for Thailand.

Equipped with duffel bags filled with children's clothing they had collected from fellow students, the group set out for a 3-week trip to Grace Ministries in the rural town of Krasang, Thailand.

Otis Man Dies in Crash on Highway 18 East of Highway 101

Police believe the man may have experienced a medical problem just before the crash.

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - An Otis-area man died Monday afternoon when his loaded dump truck veered across Highway 18 about one mile east of Highway 101, drove into a bordering barnyard where it struck two horses and a barn before coming to rest on its side.

Oregon State Police troopers investigating the crash are looking into the possibility that a medical problem may have triggered the chain of events and been a factor in this crash.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit arrested 24-year old Alejandro Emeterio "Alex" Rivera Gamboa, and 23-year old Gilberto Javier "Gabe" Rivera Gamboa, who are cousins.

Man`s Body Found in Newport July 18th Positively Identified

33-year old William Eric Switzer of Lake Oswego had arrived by bus in Newport on July 16th.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - The body of an adult male found July 18th in Newport has been identified as a Lake Oswego man who investigators believe the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot head wound.

Follow up investigation identified the man as 33-year old William Eric Switzer of Lake Oswego, and confirmed he had arrived by bus in Newport on July 16th. Next of kin have been notified.

Earthquake Traps Six Miners in Utah

A seismic expert at the University of Utah says there is a relationship between coal mining, and events such as this.

(HUNTINGTON, Utah) - Six miners were trapped in a cave-in Monday at a coal mine, less than 20 miles from the epicenter of a minor earthquake, authorities said.
