F-15 Jet Fighter Crashes off Oregon Coast

Search and rescue operations for the pilot are underway.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Officials with the Oregon National Guard say an F-15 jet fighter from the 142nd Fighter Wing Oregon Air National Guard went down off the Oregon coast approximately 35 nautical miles west of Cannon Beach at around 1:35 PM today.

The F-15 jet fighter was from the Portland Air Base on a training mission. The aircraft was carrying 1 pilot.

Detroit Dam Powerhouse Fire has not Affected Oregon Fish Populations

(DETROIT LAKE, ORE.) - An extensive cleanup at the Detroit Dam powerhouse is underway, following a June 19th electrical fire.

It is reported that cleanup efforts and the shutdown of power generation at the facility have not affected the release of water to support downstream fish and water quality, the U.S. announced today.

Two Bodies Recovered from River at Lake Oswego

Police are reviewing missing person reports and prior marine incidents that may speed the identification process.

(LAKE OSWEGO, Ore.) - Divers were called out to a report of a body floating in the Willamette River at Lake Oswego around 8:30 this morning.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Jim Strovink says the discovery was made in the area of 17100 SW Old River Road, in Lake Oswego. They soon learned there was a second body in the area.

Medicare Advantage Insurance Overpayments in Oregon Third Highest in Nation

The total cost of overpayments to Medicare Advantage private plans in Oregon in 2007 will be $344 million.

(SILVERTON, Ore.) - Federal payments to "Medicare Advantage" insurance plans in Oregon this year will average $1,893 per person more than what it costs to care for patients in the traditional Medicare program, according to a new report prepared by the Committee on Energy and Commerce of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The report finds the payments in Oregon are 30 percent higher than the costs for care in traditional, fee-for-service Medicare. Only two states in the country - New Mexico and Hawaii - have average overpayments to Medicare Advantage plans that are higher than those in Oregon.

Chris Benoit Hanged Himself After Murdering Family

The District Attorney of Fayette County announced the sad news today.

(ATLANTA, Georgia) - After a day of shock, sadness and confusion for thousands, the Fayette County District Attorney took the loss of the Benoit family to a new level today.

It was revealed that the three people were apparently not murdered by an outsider, and that there was no intruder that committed this grievous crime.

Chris Benoit, the world famous champion wrestler, apparently took his own life on Sunday. He was found in his weight room, in the basement, hanged.

Soldier from Klamath Falls Oregon Casualty in Iraq

The soldier was the captain of his high school football team, he also played ball for the College of the Siskiyous in California

(SALEM, Ore.) - Army Specialist Dominic N. Rodriguez, 23, of Klamath Falls, Ore., died June 22nd from injuries sustained in a non-combat related incident in Baghdad, Iraq. Officials with the Department of Defense say the incident is under investigation.

Dominic Rodriguez had been in Iraq since October of 2006. He enlisted in the U.S. Army believing that is was where he belonged and he wanted to defend his country.

Gasoline Price Decline Continues at Slower Pace

Gas prices still moving downward, but a bit slower than in previous weeks. Fourth of July demand could stall or reverse downward trend.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gasoline prices across the nation continue their retreat, but at a slower pace than in previous weeks. In the past seven days, the national average dropped almost three cents per gallon to $2.98; in Oregon, the average price declined by only four cents to $3.08.

Salem’s average cost of $3.00 is Oregon’s lowest. Portland drivers are paying an average of $3.02 and Eugene/Springfield motorists are seeing an average price $3.04.
