Salem Public Works Says Traffic Lights are Out Due to Power Outage

Drivers need to use extreme caution until the power outage is resolved.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem map Salem Public Works crews are responding to a number of locations over a power outage that is affecting city blocks north of downtown.

They say traffic signals are out in NE Salem along Broadway at Market, Hood and Liberty Streets. Also on Summer Street and Capitol Streets between D Streets and Erickson Streets.

Oregon State Police Sergeant Injured in Crash with Bull Elk on Interstate 84 West of La Grande

Oregon State Police Spokesman Greg Hastings says this crash is another reminder to all motorists of the potential danger while traveling when animals are on or near our highways.

(SALEM, Ore.) - OSP crash scene 6107 An Oregon State Police Sergeant responding to a reported traffic crash was injured Thursday night when his patrol car struck a bull elk on Interstate 84 about twelve miles west of La Grande.

Other officers investigating the crash say the elk partially went through the driver's side front windshield, hitting and injuring the officer.

Police say that in addition to drug-related evidence, firearms, a homemade shotgun/booby trap device, and 28 double-edged swords, dirks and daggers were seized.

Man Dies in Single-Car Crash on Highway 99W North of McMinnville

State troopers say the crash was reported at approximately 9:55 PM.

(MCMINNVILLE, Ore.) - Crash scene at fatal Mcminnville, Oregon 6107 Police say a 21-year old man died Thursday night when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a power pole about two miles north of McMinnville on Highway 99W.

They say a Chevrolet driven by 21-year Kristopher Lawrence Becker was southbound on Highway 99W near milepost 33 when it swerved off of the roadway and struck two power poles on the driver's side. Police say they do not know what caused the crash, although alcohol is being investigated as a possible factor.

Deputies Seek Information in Home Invasion Robbery

Investigators say they are anxious to gain more information that will lead to the arrest of the two suspects they say were involved.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Home invasion art Marion County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating a home invasion robbery that happened Thursday night at approximately 11:00 PM.

A homeowner at 4721 Carolina Avenue NE in Salem, 73-year-old Fritz Wegscheider, says two unknown suspects forced their way into his home, and then brandished an unknown make/style of pistol and proceeded to burglarize the residence while the Mr. Wegscheider was held against his will.

Laurie, who is 48, underwent living-donor kidney transplant surgery and removal of both of her diseased kidneys at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital Tuesday, May 29th. Her donor is 34-year old Danny Langsdorf. Both are doing well.

Salem Fire Department Holding Training Exercise Today

(SALEM, Ore.) - salem fire truck Salem Firefighters will be conducting a Burn-to-Learn on Friday June 1st, from 8:00 AM until approximately 3:00 PM in the 500 block of Statesman Street NE.

Two homes will be burned; one at 541 Statesman and the other at 545 Statesman. Statesman Street between A Street and Center Street will be closed to all traffic during the exercise.

Oregon Murder Suspect Arrested in New Mexico

40-year old Richard Lee Pruitt was a Fugitive from Justice for Murder in the First Degree.

(ALAMOGORDO, N.M.) - 40-year old Richard Lee Pruitt An eight-month interagency homicide investigation into an Oregon homicide led to an arrest in New Mexico today. A second person is being detained as a material witness in connection with the murder investigation.

The deceased man was found in September, 2006, in a field west of Interstate 5, adjacent to the Central Point interchange in southern Oregon.
