Ten U.S. Soldiers Killed in Iraq; Bus Bomb Kills 22

The deaths of ten American soldiers, makes May (107 deaths) the deadliest month for the coalition in Iraq in 2007.

(BAGHDAD, Iraq) - Ten U.S. soldiers were killed and three were wounded in two incidents yesterday in Iraq, military officials reported. Eight other U.S. soldiers were killed and 12 were wounded in Iraq over the preceding several days.

Also, the Defense Department released the identities of several servicemembers killed recently in the war on terror.

Teen Leads Police on High Speed Chase Through South Salem

Police said speeds reached 85 mph as the vehicle headed west on River Road S, then south on Viewcrest Drive S.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - A 17-year old girl led Salem police on a high-speed chase Monday morning after taking part in an annual Sprague High School "tradition".

Salem Police say the girl was involved, along with other teens, in spray painting graffiti on Kuebler Boulevard S.

Oregon Medicare Advice Program Receives Federal Grant

The grant money pays for a state SHIBA office, 22 local program sponsors, and approximately 250 volunteers who counsel Medicare beneficiaries and their family members.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - A state program that uses volunteers to offer free, unbiased help to people making Medicare decisions this month received a $417,631 federal grant to continue outreach to Oregonians in 2007.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services grant goes to the Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance (SHIBA) network and will allow the program to expand its volunteer network into several underserved rural areas of Oregon.

Injured Whales Receive Antibiotics; Moving Closer to Ocean Home

Rescuers will use the next few days to assess the health condition of the two humpback whales.

(RIO VISTA, Calif.) - Veterinarians were successful in administering antibiotics to the mother whale and calf that have remained in the Sacramento River.

The antibiotics were administered using custom made syringes deployed via a remote operating apparatus into the muscle tissue of both whales, nicknamed Delta and Dawn.

Firefighters Quickly Contain Central Oregon Wildfires

In all the fires blackened a total of about 180 acres.

(SISTERS, Ore. ) - Fire crews were able to contain two small wildfires in Central Oregon on Monday.

The fires were located northeast of Sisters.

Investigators believe the fires were caused by humans because there hasn't been any lightning strikes recently in the area.

Oregon Senator Pushes Congress to Prevent Youth Suicide

Tragically, youth suicide takes the lives of more than 3,000 children each year.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Oregon Senator Gordon Smith joined his colleagues Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Jack Reed (D-RI) in introducing legislation designed to prevent youth suicide through programs supported by the Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act.

Originally passed in 2002, the GLSMA authorized the creation of the Suicide Prevention Resource Center, which provides support, training and resources for the development of youth suicide prevention programs across the country.

Coast Guard Saves Four from Grounded Sailboat off Washington Coast (VIDEO)

No injuries were reported.

(SEATTLE) - The Coast Guard assisted four people on a sailing vessel that ran aground at the south end of Lopez Island, Wash., on Sunday.

Coast Guard Group Port Angeles received a call at approximately 5:10 PM from the 36-foot sailing vessel, Shekinech, that they had run aground and needed assistance.

Upon arrival the 33-foot small response boat crew pulled the Shekinech off of the rocks while the helicopter hovered in case of further complications.

Badly Decayed Body Recovered from Willamette River Near St. Johns Bridge

The Multnomah County Medical Examiner who will attempt identification through autopsy and other information found.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - A boater spotted a human body floating in the Willamette River Saturday morning near the St. Johns Bridge. Multnomah County River Patrol Deputies responded to the area and recovered the remains which they describe as beinbg in the late stages of decomposition.

A boater traveling in the area made the discovery around 9:10 AM and notified authorities regarding a body floating in the river.

Salem Mother and Son Escape Fire

The cause of the fire was determined to be a malfunction of the dryer.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem firefighters responded to a Structure Fire at 435 Vista Avenue SE, Apt 105 at Vista Avenue Apartments Sunday just before 9:000 AM.

Salem Fire Spokesman Bill Holmstrom says that when firefighters arrived on scene, they had flames shooting out the front door of unit #105 of this multi-unit apartment complex.

Man Seriously Injured in Organized Bicycle Race

31-year old Ryan Mcknab of Corvallis was transported to Silverton and was subsequently transferred to OHSU Hospital in Portland by Life Flight.

(SILVERTON, Ore.) - A number of bike race competitors were injured in a crash Sunday morning near Silverton. One of the racer's injuries were serious. The collision happened in the 1100 block of Victor Point Road near Silverton around 11:30 AM.

Dave Cornforth with the Marion County Sheriff's Office , says deputies responded to the location to learn that six bicyclists, while participating in a bicycle race, collided and at least one was seriously injured.
