Salem Parking Structures to be Safer! Brighter! Better!

Both structures will be open during construction with at least 70% of parking spaces available at all times.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Beginning Monday, Liberty and Chemeketa Parking Structures in downtown Salem will be undergoing renovation.

The panels around the outsides of the structures will be removed and replaced with steel cables and the outside surfaces will be recoated.

The contractors will work on one side of each structure at a time in order to keep disruption to parking and area businesses at a minimum.

Rescue Postponed For Whales: Delta and Dawn

The whales are still lost up a river channel 70 miles from the ocean, but their popularity is growing.

(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) - Another attempt to rescue the two whales was unsuccessful Friday, and officials say they are going to call off the effort for the weekend. The whales may have turned inland from the ocean during their annual migration north, and the mother and calf have been in a turning basin near Sacramento since last Sunday.

Thousands of people went out of their way to see the whales Thursday and Friday, but Lt. Gov. John Garamendi urged residents not to come to the site, but instead to follow the ongoing situation through the media.

Oregon Man Faces 85 Counts of Recklessly Endangering Apartment Residents in Lake Oswego

According to police and fire department investigators, Weaver reported to apartment managers that the system had been repaired and was functioning properly, when in fact he is alleged to have known that the smoke alarms were not working.

(LAKE OSWEGO, Ore.) - Lake Oswego police have charged Eric Eugene Weaver, an employee of Fire Extinguisher Service Center in Beaverton, with 85 counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person, a Class "A" Misdemeanor.

In January of this year, the Parkridge Apartments management group hired Fire Extinguisher Service Center to repair the fire alarm system in one of the apartment buildings, at 215 Greenridge Drive in Lake Oswego.

Oregon Civil Air Patrol Conducts Exercises

The Oregon CAP has participated in over 28 missions so far in 2007.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Over 40 members of the Civil Air Patrol's Portland Metro area units are participating in a weekend long readiness exercise conducted from their Northern Incident Command Post located at the Aurora Airport this weekend.

Lt. Col. Thomas Traver, CAP with the Oregon CAP, says the exercise focusing on multiple scenarios. It's primary purpose was tp prepare for a much larger US Air Force monitored and graded exercise to be held in August.

Charter Boat Bullfrog Sinks Off Oregon Coast

Everyone onboard the boat was rescued.

(TILLAMOOK, Ore. ) - Coast Guard Captain Patrick Gerrity, Captain of the Port, Portland, Ore., is stressing safe operation of all vessels in Oregon waters, after the sinking of the charter vessel Bullfrog early Saturday and the investigation and events leading up to the sentencing of charter boat captain Richard Oba for Seaman's Manslaughter.

At 6:38 AM Saturday, the charter boat Bullforg sank 10-miles off the coast of Tillamook, Ore., after the vessel began taking on water with eight people on board.

Coast Guard Searching for Missing Fisherman off Oregon Coast

The missing man, along with two other fishermen who were rescued were not wearing life jackets.

(ASTORIA, Ore. ) - The Coast Guard is searching for a missing man after his 16-foot sport fishing boat capsized 100-yards west of Astoria Megler Bridge Saturday around 7:53 AM.

The missing man was last seen wearing a camo/green jacket and jeans and is described as a 40-year old male weighing 210 pounds.

Two other people were were thrown into the water with the missing man when the boat capsized. The two were quickly recovered by rescuers and were transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Troops Speak Out: Armed Forces Day Really Does Matter

Bugles are present all over the nation today, especially in Oregon, as millions honor those who serve in uniform.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Ask someone serving in the military, and you might be surprised to hear them tell you just how much Armed Forces Day means to them.

As the country commemorates Armed Forces Day today, soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines say they're grateful for the special day set aside to recognize them and their service. It's particularly important, they say, while the country is at war.

Six Salem Firefighters Promoted

Apparatus Operators Trever Elmer and Ty Gunesch were promoted to Captain.

(SALEM, Ore) - The Salem Fire Department held a promotional ceremony on Friday, to recognize the promotion of several personnel.

The promotions began March 23rd with the promotion of Captain Frank Stephenson to Battalion Chief assigned to Station 2.

Battalion Chief Stephenson started with the Salem Fire Department in 1995 and was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2001.
