Motorcyclist Injured After Hitting Dead Deer on I-5

The dead dear was laying the the center lane of the freeway.

(BROOKS, Ore.) - crash investigation A Salem-area man received non-life threatening injuries Monday morning when he was ejected from the motorcycle he was operating after running over a dead deer southbound Interstate 5 at the Brooks interchange.

The dead deer reportedly was in a shaded area underneath the overpass and difficult to see.

Monday morning at about 7:30, 36-year old Robert Evans from northeast Salem was southbound on Interstate 5 on a 1997 Suzuki motorcycle.

Oregon Gas Prices Hit Record Highs

Portland/Vancouver hit a record high today at $3.11.

(SALEM) - gas station photo Oregon’s statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded set a new record high today at $3.12.

The previous record was $3.11 set on May 28th, 2006.

According to AAA, the Salem-area average price has been setting record highs daily since April 19th. Today the average price is at a record high $3.11.

Former Russian President Boris Yeltsin has Died

In August 1991, Yeltsin won international plaudits for casting himself as a democrat and defying the August coup attempt of 1991 by hard-line Communists.

(MOSCOW) - boris yeltsin photo Boris Nikolayevich Yeltsin, the first President of the Russian Federation from 1991 to 1999 has died today the Kremlin press service is reporting.

He was 76.

The Yeltsin era was a traumatic period in Russian history -- a period marked by widespread corruption, economic collapse, and enormous political and social problems.

State Police Investigating Body Found Along the Oregon Coast

Anyone with information that may help is asked to contact OSP Northern Command Center dispatch at (800) 452-7888.

(WALDPORT, Ore. ) - death investigation 350 Oregon State Police and the Lincoln County Medical Examiner are investigating the discovery of an unidentified body on the beach about two miles south of Waldport.

On Sunday at approximately 12:30 PM, a person walking on the beach about one mile south of Governor Patterson Memorial State Recreation Site saw a body floating in the surf.

The badly decomposed unidentified body of an adult male was retrieved from the surf.

One Week After Bloody Massacre, Classes Resume at Virginia Tech (VIDEO)

A moment of silence will honor the 32 victims of last week's shooting who were killed by gunman, and fellow student Cho Seung-Hui.

(BLACKSBURG, Va. ) - virginia tech memorial On Monday, Virginia Tech will observe a university-wide moment of silence, marked by the toll of one bell from the tower of Burruss Hall at 9:45 AM.

At 9:46 AM, 32 bell tolls will sound in memory of each victim, timed with the release of 32 white balloons from the Drillfield.

A release of 1,000 orange and maroon balloons signifying Hokie unity and spirit will immediately follow.

A Blue Angel on my Friend`s Shoulder

A lighter tale about an old friend and a pilot from an American group called the Blue Angels.

(SALEM) - Blue Angel`s A-4 Skyhawk A close friend of mine in the Marine Corps had an experience with the Blue Angels that I'll never forget, and I would place money on the fact that he remembers it far better than I.

Most encounters of this nature do not have good outcomes.

My friend John Evey was a Lance Corporal, I was a PFC at the time. He was tall and lean and to put it mildly, he liked to stir things up. There is a certain thing that happens to some guys when they join the Marine Corps and that "thing" takes a teenager who already sees himself as nearly invincible, and makes him do things that most rational people would never think of.

Navy Indentifies Fallen Blue Angels Pilot

The Navy is still investigating the cause of the crash.

(BEAUFORT, S.C.) - Kevin Davis photo The Navy on Sunday identified the U.S. Navy Blue Angels aviator who died in Saturday's crash as Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Davis.

Davis is a native of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and graduated from Reading Memorial High School in 1992 where he played football and was active with the Civil Air Patrol.

The crash, which occurred at 4:00 PM ET Saturday, during a precision-flying team demonstration, injured eight people on the ground and damaged eight structures.

Four Soldiers Killed, Eight Wounded in Iraq

The Defense Department also released the identities of two soldiers killed previously in Iraq.

(BAGHDAD, Iraq) - iraq soldiers photo Four soldiers died and eight were wounded Saturday in combat operations around Baghdad. Another soldier died of a non-battle-related cause.

A Task Force Marne soldier was killed and two were wounded during an indirect-fire attack against a forward operating base southwest of Baghdad Saturday night.
