Renewed Hope for Aid to Oregon Salmon Fishermen

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - To aid Oregon fishermen impacted by last year’s restricted salmon fishing season, U.S. Senators Gordon H. Smith (R-OR) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) are pushing for $60.4 million in disaster assistance for West Coast salmon fishermen to be included in an emergency spending bill the Senate is drafting.

In 2006, commercial salmon fishing was all but eliminated along 700 miles of Oregon and California coastline in an attempt to protect the Klamath River salmon.

Last year’s salmon closure was the largest in U.S. history.

Police Find Meth, Other Drugs While Searching SE Salem Home

Two children were taken into protective custody by DHS.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Police found meth and other drugs in a southeast Salem home early Thursday morning following a traffic stop on Lancaster Drive SE.

Police said it all began just after 1:00 AM when Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of Lancaster Drive SE.

The driver 38-year-old Joani Lynn DeBoar was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.

Man Leads Police on Chase Through Woodburn

Police said a small amount of drugs and a methamphetamine pipe was also discovered in the vehicle.

(WOODBURN, Ore. ) - Woodburn police say a man led authorities on a chase through Woodburn early Thursday.

Police say the chase started when an officer noticed a car without headlights and tried to pull the driver over.

The driver, 22-year-old Pablo Garcia, sped through Woodburn with the officer in pursuit and then lost control and crashed at the intersection of Newberg Highway and Butteville Road.

Senate Passes Expansion of Oregon Prescription Drug Program

Legislation will expand ability to deliver lower prices to more Oregonians.

(SALEM) - The Oregon Senate voted today to pass Senate Bill 362, legislation that will allow more Oregonians to purchase lower-cost prescription drugs. The bill is sponsored by Senator Bill Morrisette (D-Springfield) and builds on the Oregon Prescription Drug Program that was put in place in 2003 and expanded by the voters in 2006 with Ballot Measure 44.

“Prescription drugs are expensive and this bill simply gives Oregonians another tool to combat rising costs,” said Senator Morrisette. “Expanding eligibility so more Oregonians save money with this program is a top priority for me.”
