Salmonella Outbreak Spreads to 41 States

FDA continues to advise consumers not to eat any Peter Pan peanut butter purchased since May 2006.

(ATLANTA ) - Product testing by several states has now confirmed that Peter Pan peanut butter and certain Great Value brand peanut butter are the sources of the foodborne illness outbreak of Salmonella Tennessee that began in August 2006.

To date 329 individuals have become ill from consuming the contaminated peanut butter, and 51 of those persons were hospitalized.

All products containing Peter Pan brand peanut butter and all jars of Great Value brand peanut butter bearing a product code that begins "2111" are potentially contaminated.

A Chance to Help a Little Boy in Need

An event Saturday at Salem's Red Lion Hotel will benefit the small boy who needs a transplant.

(SALEM) - Terick and his mom A one-year old Salem boy that was born with Gastroschisis needs the support of his community and a special event Saturday will allow residents a chance to do just that.

Little Terick's problems at birth were huge, and doctors initially believed that he would not live a week. As time has passed however, he has grown and improved in some respects, but his challenges remain daunting.

Former Bookkeeper Gets Year in Jail for Stealing Student Body Funds

Marcelina Cedillo used the student body funds to gamble at the Spirit Mountain Casino.

(DALLAS) - On Friday, Monmouth resident 51-year-old Marcelina Cedillo, appeared in Polk County Circuit Court and was sentenced on a charge of Aggravated Theft in the First Degree by Judge Horner.

Between August of 2005 and April of 2006 she embezzled more than $40,000 from student accounts.

The theft was discovered when school district audit procedures revealed discrepancies between receipts and deposits.

UPDATE: Washington Man Killed Going Wrong Way on I-5 South of Salem (AUDIO)

Listen to four calls into 9-1-1 dispatch, reporting the wrong-way driver.

(SALEM) - fatal head-on crash Oregon State Police troopers were called out from their residences early Friday morning to respond to a fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of a wrong way driver after his vehicle crashed head-on with a commercial truck in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 south of Salem.

Preliminary investigation indicates a 2000 Chrysler 300 four-door driven by 45-year-old Kevin Renfrow, from Aberdeen, Washington, was southbound in the northbound lanes of I-5 near milepost 247 when it crashed head-on with a commercial truck in the center lane of three northbound lanes.

UPDATE: Salem Man Shot Along Highway 22 East of Salem

The victim recalls seeing a dirty white or silver American-made style passenger car in the area shortly before the incident.

(STAYTON) - Oregon State Police detectives are continuing the investigation into a reported shooting that allegedly occurred along Highway 22 in the Stayton area early Friday morning.

At approximately 1:48 AM, a report was received from the victim advising he had been shot while stopped on the westbound shoulder of Highway 22 near milepost 13 east of the Santiam Golf Club.

The victim, a 27-year old male Salem resident, was transported to Santiam Memorial Hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening shoulder wound.

President Issues Federal Disaster Assistance for Oregon

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - George Bush President Bush has declared a major disaster exists in the State of Oregon and ordered Federal aid to supplement State and local recovery efforts in the area struck by a severe winter storm and flooding during the period of December 14th-15th, 2006.

Federal funding is available to State and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe winter storm and flooding in Benton, Clatsop, Columbia, Lincoln, Polk, Tillamook, Wheeler, and Yamhill Counties, and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians.
