Newport Finance Director to be Fired After DUII Arrest

Lee James Gadinas is being held in the Lincoln County jail.

(NEWPORT) - The city of Newport's finance director was suspended without pay Monday and will be fired after his weekend arrest on a driving under the influence allegation, Newport City Manager Allen O'Neal said

On Saturday shortly after midnight, 46-year-old Lee James Gadinas, the city's finance director since 2005, failed to stop and continued to his home in Waldport, where he fled inside, said Deputy Lance Cummings.

Overnight 4-Alarm Fire Destroys Portland Church

Wells Fargo has opened an account for anyone who wants to make a donation to help in the rebuilding of the historic church.

(PORTLAND) - Portland Fire & Rescue responded to the report of a church on fire at 106 NE Ivy St.

When crews arrived at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, they reported a 3-story church that takes up 1/2 city block fully involved.

The church building was so fully involved in fire that embers were being lifted high in the air by the thermal column and fell on neighboring residences.

Chuck Lee Files For School Board; Resigns From Keizer City Council

Lee is a two-term city councilor in Keizer and President of Blanchet Catholic School in Salem.

(KEIZER) - Chuck Lee, Keizer City Councilor and President of Blanchet Catholic School, filed Monday for the Zone 6 Director position for the Salem-Keizer School Board, which will be up for election on May 15th.

Lee also submitted his resignation to the Keizer City Council after six years of service.

If elected, Lee would replace Mike Basinger, who has decided not to run for re-election.

House Fire in Jefferson Displaces Residents

(JEFFERSON) - Jefferson Fire units responded to a house fire Monday morning at 11:30 at 364 Marion Street. They say the resident was wise to get out after the fire was initially spotted.

51-year-old Melana Mendez, was in another room of the house when she heard popping and crackling.

She began smelling smoke and when she reached the kitchen saw flames going up her kitchen cabinets and wall near the stove.

Oregon Man Charged With Using Stun-Gun on Infant Son Faces Judge

Prosecutors say they are looking into why the boy's mother, Jennifer Whittman, didn’t call police sooner.

(ALBANY) - The man who allegedly used a 100,000 volt stun-gun device on his 18-month-old son faced a Linn County Judge late Monday afternoon.

23-year old Rian James Whittman is accused of repeatedly attacking his son Kyle with the device over a 3-week period on his arms, stomach, back, and legs.

Albany Teen Escapes Attempted Kidnapping

The suspect vehicle is described as a two-door car possibly a Honda or an Acura.

(ALBANY) - A 15-year-old girl was able to escape from a man who tried to pull her into his vehicle Sunday night on a southeast Albany street.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, in his late 30s to early 40s, with short or medium-length black hair, a mustache, crooked teeth and a chipped front tooth.

On average, farmers receive about 21 cents per pound for organic milk compared to about 14 cents per pound for conventional milk.

(CORVALLIS) - Across the United States consumer demand for organically produced milk regularly exceeds supply -- a shortage has created a financial incentive for dairy farmers to explore organic production in their operations.

Oregon is a nationwide leader in organic milk production, and more farmers are converting to organic production all the time, said Mike Gamroth, an Oregon State University Extension dairy specialist and researcher in the Department of Animal Sciences.
