Parents Invited to Salem-Keizer Internet Safety Workshops

The Salem-Keizer School District want to help you protect your children from internet crimes.

(SALEM) - The Salem-Keizer School District is holding a series Internet Safety Workshops this month to help parents protect their children from internet crimes.

Topics will include:

Internet predators - How they prey on children & the tactics they use.
Cyberbullying - what it is and how to address it.
Social Networking Sites – Such as MySpace and Facebook.
Email and Instant Messaging.

Oregon Man Arrested For Using Stun Gun on 18-Month Old Son

Albany Capt. Eric Carter says the child received multiple injuries to his arms, stomach, back, and legs.

(ALBANY) - A 21-year old mother contacted Albany Police Saturday afternoon to report child abuse allegations against her husband.

She told officers that her husband, 23-year old Rian James Whittman, shot their 18-month old son repeatedly with a stun gun causing injury.

Investigators say Whittman used a 100,000 volt stun-gun multiple times on the boy over an approximately 3-week period.

Electric Blanket Blamed in Apartment Fire

Investigators have not determined if the electric blanket malfunctioned or other circumstances were behind the it catching on fire.

(SALEM) - The occupants of an apartment fire at 189 25th Street NE, in Salem at the Kalani Apartments, made a safe escape because they were warned by their fire alarm.

Gail Jacob and John Barber had been awake just 10 minutes at 7:01 AM Sunday when their smoke detector activated, alerting them to a fire in their bedroom. Ms. Jacob says they were in the living room when the alarm sounded, "I looked to see what was happening and I saw my bed was on fire." Both occupants escaped safely.

Study Finds Mercury Prevalent in Many Western Fish; Impact on Humans Uncertain

Highway 18 Crash Seriously Injures Three

One driver has been charged with numerous crimes in what police describe as an alcohol-related crash.

(GRAND RONDE) - State Police were called out early Sunday morning to a two-vehicle head-on crash on Highway 18 that seriously injured three people.

Around 12:45 AM, a red 1991 Toyota Corolla driven by 38-year-old Sean McCulloch, of Willamina, was westbound on Highway 18 when it veered across the centerline into the eastbound lane.

Oregon Says Goodbye to Betting on NFL Games

Sports Action began 1989, while Monday Night Scoreboard was introduced in 2003.

(SALEM) - Super Bowl XLI marks the last day of the Oregon Lottery’s Sports Action, and Monday Night Scoreboard.

During the 2005 Oregon legislative session, House Bill 3466, which goes into effect on July 1st was passed to eliminate the Lottery’s sports games, specifically Sports Action and Monday Night Scoreboard, after the 2006-07 football season.

Three Earthquakes Rattle Off Oregon Coast

No damage or injuries were reported.

(GOLD BEACH) - Three light earthquakes shook off the Oregon Coast last week according to the USGS.

The first one occurred on Wednesday at 7:24 AM.

The 4.4 magnitude quake was located 118 miles west of Gold Beach.

The next quake struck just minutes later at 7:38 AM.
