Police Investigating Baby’s Death

(WOODBURN) - Woodburn police are investigating the death of a newborn baby.

Police said the baby’s body was found wrapped in a blanket in the back yard of the mother’s home at 873 Meadowvale Lane in Woodburn on Sunday.

Police told FOX-12 that the investigation began when the mother showed up at a Silverton hospital and said she had a miscarriage.

ANA, Coalition Forces Engage Insurgents During ISAF Operations

UPDATE: International Security Assistance Force- Afghanistan

(BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan) - In two separate incidents Sunday afternoon, Afghan National Army (ANA) and Coalition forces, in support of ISAF operations, engaged and defeated a number of insurgents.

Near Sperwan Ghar in Kandahar province, insurgents were engaged by ANA and Coalition forces with small arms and close air support. Battle damage assessment determined that there were no injuries to ANA, Coalition forces, or local civilians during this engagement, however one insurgent was wounded.

Two Coalition Soldiers Injured During Engagement in Zabul Province

UPDATE: International Security Assistance Force- Afghanistan

(KANDAHAR, Afghanistan) - Two Coalition soldiers were wounded early Monday when their convoy came under insurgent attack while supporting an ISAF operation 11 kilometres east of Mizen, in Zabul province.

One coalition vehicle was struck by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and in the subsequent small arms engagement, four other vehicles sustained damage.

Two Dead in Fiery Overnight Crash

An autopsy will be scheduled to determine cause of death and to positively identify the victims.

(SALEM) - Salem Police are investigating a motor vehicle crash that took two lives Saturday night.

At about 11:40 PM a 1990 Acura Integra was seen north bound on Lancaster Drive at very high rate of speed.

Witnesses estimated the speed to be 70-90 MPH, Salem police spokesman Lt. Bill Kohlmeyer said.

At Devonshire, the Integra ran a red light and clipped the front bumper on a 1994 GMC pickup, then struck a power pole.

Registration Underway For Salem Citizen Police Academy

The application deadline is December 27th.

(SALEM) - The Salem Police Department will hold its 18th Citizen Police Academy beginning January 3rd, 2007.

The classes offer Salem citizens an opportunity to gain insight and understanding of how the department serves the community.

Academy instructors provide a comprehensive look at the various services, resources, policies, procedures, and other integral parts of law enforcement.

Salem Seeks to Increase Water, Sewer Bills

This increase will result in an average residential combined monthly water and sewer bill increasing by $3.91 to $56.32.

(SALEM) - A public hearing for a proposed 7.5% water and sewer rate increase will take place Monday during the Salem City Council meeting.

Salem Public Works spokesman Mike Gotterba says in 2004, Salem approved increases for 2004 and 2005 at 6.5%.

This was based on the CIP (Capital Improvement Program) Challenge which called for Salem to reduce its 5-year capital program by $60 million while still completing needed improvements.

McMinnville Man Faces Murder Charge After Stabbing Saturday

Bradley Scott Seifried, of McMinnville faces one count of murder.

(DAYTON) - Yamhill County Sheriff's Deputies and Oregon State Police responded Saturday with medical personnel to 14145 SE Stringtown Road, in Dayton, following a report that an injured woman needed medical attention at that location.

Upon arrival, Deputies located the body of 46-year old Ann Claire Kreder, of that address, the apparent victim of a stabbing.

Repatriation Ceremony Held For Crew of MI-26 Helicopter Crash

(KANDAHAR, Afghanistan) - On Friday, December 8th, an official repatriation ceremony was held at Kandahar Airfield for the civilian crew of the MI-26 helicopter, which crashed in northern Kandahar province on Sunday, December 3rd.

Regional Command-South (RC-S) Political Advisor, Ambassador Gajus Scheltema and the Deputy Commander of RC-S, Colonel Tim Bevis were in attendance.

A ceremony was also held at Kabul Airfield for personnel wishing to pay their respects.

Festival of Lights Parade and Tree Lighting Kick Off Salem Oregon Holiday Season

Two Holiday Season events bond together for the first time with the Comcast and City of Salem Holiday tree lighting at River Front Park and the PGE/Salem Festival of Lights Parade.

(Salem) - The yearly event started at Riverfront Park where a crowd of people came together under the gazebo and listened to the music from the South Salem High School Jazz Ensemble.

Others milled around outside the gazebo and drank hot chocolate and ate cookies provided by Roth’s Vista Market. Members of the South Salem Rotary Club hosted the refreshment booth.
