Phone, Power Outages Reported in Turner

PGE estimates some 200 are without power.

(TURNER) - Utility crews are busy working to restore phone and power to residents of Turner this afternoon.

The Marion County Sheriff’s office says a car driven by a 24-year-old crashed into a utility pole this morning causing the outages.

Verizon officials say some 2,000 customers are without phone service.

Salem Police Seek Public`s Help in Identifying Robbery Suspect

Detectives are using surveillance photos taken during the robbery in hopes of identifying the suspect.

(SALEM) - Salem Police Detectives are asking for the public's help in identifying a man involved in a Robbery of the "Safeway" Store, 3285 Commercial St. SE, Salem which occurred at 7:50 PM Friday, Oct. 27th.

The suspect entered the store and approached the Customer Service Desk where he said he was armed with a gun.

Semi-Truck Rollover First of Several Early Morning Crashes Leading to Closure of Highway 26

The first rollover seemed to initiate a chain reaction that led to a number of vehicles being wrecked.

(GOVERNMENT CAMP) - Approximately a dozen vehicles, including commercial trucks and passenger cars, were involved in several crashes early Thursday morning on a three-mile stretch of Highway 26 about seven miles east of Government Camp. An icy condition related to freezing rain was a contributing factor.

Thursday morning at approximately 5:00 AM, the first of several crashes occurred on Highway 26 near milepost 65.

Rain Returns to Oregon, Numerous Accidents Reported

(SALEM) - The rain has returned to Oregon. Willamette Valley police agencies reported numerous fender benders due to the wet weather.

(SALEM) - The Overpayment Check Scam is the “bread and butter” for these organized check forgers. Today’s tip involves a new twist to an old problem and all people should be aware of large the impact could be.

One victim, whom I will refer to as “John Doe,” advertised a room for rent through www.Roommates.com. This is a popular Internet site to advertise for a roommate to share expenses. Since it is on the Internet, it can be viewed by anyone in the world.

Salem Woman Busted For False Abduction Report

The trick kept police response tied up for more than two and a half hours.

(SALEM) - A Salem woman is in custody today for sending police on what amounts to a wild goose chase Wednesday night. Salem Police say 21-year-old Paradise Lynn Rodgers was located after 911 dispatchers received at least nine calls from the woman saying she was being held against her will in a car by a man. The first call came in around 6:15 PM.

Rodgers, who is currently on probation for filing a false police report, told police at one point that she was being held in a car. In one call, the caller allegedly said she was being held in the trunk of a car.

Another Bird in Marion County Tests Positive For West Nile

There have been no human cases of West Nile virus identified in Marion County.

(SALEM) - A blue jay collected on October 24th, from the Aumsville area has tested positive for West Nile Virus. This is the second case of West Nile virus in a bird from Marion County since the virus was first introduced into the United States in 1999.

West Nile virus is transmitted through the bite of a mosquito. The best defense against West Nile virus is to prevent mosquito bites.


Most people who are infected with West Nile virus will have no symptoms, and in those who do symptoms are usually mild, with fever and flu-like illness.

Head-On Commercial Vehicle Crash Erupts in Flames Killing Two Near Bend

The crash halted traffic on Highway 97 for several hours as police investigated the burned wreckage.

(BEND) - State Police troopers responded to a head-on crash with Bend Police Department on Highway 97 near milepost 142 in the city limits of Bend.

The 3:20 PM crash involving two commercial vehicles resulted in the death of two persons. Both vehicles were reportedly destroyed by the fire. The identities of the two drivers have not been released.

NO METH Group Canvasses Downtown Businesses

I.D. theft is one of Salem's biggest commerce-related issues.

(SALEM) - NO METH volunteers took their fight to the streets this week as they canvassed downtown Salem businesses to educate merchants on the identity theft initiative and also distribute the newly developed “WARNING- For your protection, we ask for ID” stickers.

These black and white “WARNING” stickers were given to over 60 businesses who pledged to enact or enforce policies requiring photo ID with debit and/or credit transactions.

I recently had the experience of becoming an advocate for an individual who found himself, once again, in the need of social services. His job had ended because a prior back injury prevented him from fulfilling the work expectations of his employer.

He needed food stamps and ran into a brick wall - a very determined caseworker bent on following the rules.
