Attorney General Files Lawsuit Against Two Salem, Keizer Contractors for Doing Business Without a License

Ramiro Rudy Ramirez of Keizer, doing business as Crystal Clear Designers, and Sean Bender of Salem, doing business as Diversified Construction, are named in lawsuits filed in Marion County Circuit Court.

(SALEM) - Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers is suing two unlicensed contractors for allegedly taking money for work not completed or never started, and subsequently disregarding warnings and notices from the Attorney General’s office.

“Operating without a license and taking money for work never started or completed is outrageous,” Myers said. “But intentionally ignoring law enforcement will not be tolerated.”

Timber Land Thefts Result in Conviction

A Polk County deputy's investigation of stolen forestry equipment around the former town of Valsetz has led to a lenghtly prison sentence for a Monmouth man.

(DALLAS) - Earlier this year, Deputy Jeff Williams of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office was assigned to patrol the rural timber areas of Polk County.

Soon Williams began investigating multiple reports of theft and damage to logging equipment belonging to subcontractors working for Forest Capital Partners.

The area that the thefts took place were all near the old town of Valsetz which is located in the S.W. corner of Polk County.

During the investigation, Williams was able to piece the crimes together, and this led to the arrest of 43-year old Brian K. Lee of Monmouth.

Police Seek Information About Fatal Motorcycle Crash South of Cottage Grove (UPDATE)

UPDATE- All lanes on I-5 are now clear. A vague description of the commercial truck is unknown make/model/color, towing a box style trailer either light orange or brown in color.

(COTTAGE GROVE) - Oregon State Police are seeking witnesses related to this afternoon's fatal motorcycle crash in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, south of Cottage Grove.
Witnesses say a truck that was involved continued northbound on the freeway without stopping.

State Troopers are seeking anyone who may be able to identify the truck and driver.

Police: Skull Found at Logging Site Not Brooke Wilberger

The skull was found by loggers working on Forest Service Road 1726 near east Devils Lake Road just outside Lincoln City.

(LINCOLN CITY) - A human skull found by loggers working on Forest Service Road 1726 near east Devils Lake Road is that of a 15 to 25 year old male who apparently hung himself according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s office.

According to the Medical Examiner, and from evidence found by investigators, the young man is believed to have committed suicide.

(OREGON CITY) - Investigators with Clackamas County say 33-year old Gary Elliott Battin was playing basketball with a relative in the driveway of a home he was visiting in Milwaulke when he chased the ball into the street and ran into a trailer being towed by a westboud pickup on Roots Road.

New Intoxilyzer 8000 Breath Testing Equipment Being Installed in Marion County

(SALEM) - The new Intoxilyzer 8000 Breath Testing equipment is being installed at seven Marion County area law enforcement agency locations Wednesday, replacing the current Intoxilyzer 5000 models that have been in use for over twelve years.

Officials say installation in other areas of the State will be phased in over the next several months.

Wyden, Smith: Clock is Ticking on Mount Hood Wilderness Bill

Senators Say Congress Should Pass Legislation this Year.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Speaking today before a congressional panel holding a hearing on their legislation to permanently protect more than 128,000 acres of wilderness on Mount Hood and in the Columbia River Gorge, U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Gordon Smith said Congress should capitalize on the momentum behind the bill and pass the proposal before the end of the year.

The Wyden-Smith legislation represents an increase of almost 70 percent over existing wilderness protections. The Senators’ bill also would grant Wild and Scenic River protections to more than 80 additional miles of rivers in Oregon.

Health Advisory Issued for Water Contact at Twin Rocks Beach

Direct contact with the water should be avoided until the advisories are lifted, especially for children and the elderly, who may be more vulnerable to waterborne bacteria.

(TILLAMOOK) - A public health advisory was issued Wednesday due to higher-than-normal levels of bacteria in ocean waters at Twin Rocks beach in Tillamook County.

Water samples indicate higher-than-normal levels of fecal bacteria, which can result in gastroenteritis, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections and other illnesses.
