(SALEM) - Education today in Oregon and our nation is organized on the pattern set in place over 100 years ago to meet strong pressures felt then for social, economic and educational change.

That pattern --craft organization-- was slowly abandoned, changed for-the-better in nearly every element and component of our still-modernizing society.

Salem Police Detectives Asking for Help in Locating Victims of Car Burglaries

They say juveniles are involved in a numerous car clouts in South Salem.

(SALEM) - Salem Police Detectives were near Commercial & Marion St NE on a unrelated investigation when they saw four male juveniles in violation of daytime curfew and disobeying a pedestrian crosswalk signal. The Detectives contacted them and learned that two had warrants for probation violations, one was a runaway and one was currently on probation.

Salem Police Spokesman Bill Kohlmeyer says investigators learned that the juveniles had been out together earlier, between 3:00 and 5:00 AM on Wednesday...

Thatcher Conducts Corrections Fact-Finding Tour

Thatcher says she wants to help counties get the state resources they deserve for jail and community corrections.

(KEIZER) - “I wanted a first hand look at the challenges facing our corrections system in Oregon, “said State Representative Kim Thatcher R-Keizer.

In the past few days Thatcher toured the Yamhill County Jail in McMinnville and the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville, both near her legislative district.

Thatcher served on the House Judiciary Committee last legislative session and is currently drafting several public safety measures to introduce next year.

"I came to Oregon in support of Paul Evans because it's time that a leader like Paul, with a record of service as distinguished as anybody in the country, take office to change the course instead of staying the course," Cleland said.

Shangri-La Purchases Facility in Salem’s Fairview Industrial Park

Shangri-La is a non-profit organization providing homes, jobs, and supports to Oregonians with developmental disabilities and economic disadvantages.

(SALEM) - Shangri-La Corporation announced Friday their purchase of a 56,000 square foot facility in Salem's Fairview Industrial Park.

The purchase was made possible thanks to the contributions and support of the members of Cascadia Development; LCG Pence & Pence/Kelly Construction; Kelly White, West Coast Bank; John Safstrom, Mid-Willamette Valley Council of Governments and various individual donors.

(SALEM) - Whether it comes in a Spongebob Squarepants lunch box or a brown paper sack, the meal you send to school with your child needs to be packed with care and consideration. Now that school is back in session, the Oregon Department of Agriculture is offering some helpful hints on how to make that school lunch from home as safe as possible.

“Children are more susceptible to food borne illnesses than adults, so it becomes even more important that we protect the lunches they take to school,” says Ellen Laymon, field supervisor for ODA's Food Safety Division.

(NEWPORT) - Saturday marks the date for the 23rd annual Great Oregon Fall Beach Cleanup.

The event will take place from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM along the entire Oregon coast, from the Washington to the California borders.

Volunteers may check in at one of 40 meeting sites, pick up a litter bag, and head down to the beach to help improve the coast for wildlife and winter visitors.

New Independence Cinema Set to Open This Spring

The project will help the city jump start it’s downtown revitalization process.

(INDEPENDENCE) - Residents of Independence and surround cities soon wont’ have to travel far to see a first run movie.

The city, in conjunction with Prestige Development, have begun construction on a new 18,000 square foot cinema located at the intersection of 3rd Street and D Street.

Public Health Officials Seek Source of E. Coli 0157 Outbreak

E. coli O157 is a foodborne infection that also can be passed from person to person unless ill persons wash their hands diligently after using the toilet.

(SALEM) - Oregon public health officials have joined those in at least eight other states in investigating an outbreak of E. coli O157, a foodborne illness that has been identified in at least five people across Oregon.
