Salem Man Gets 10 Years for Wallace Marine Park Rape

The victim was present and addressed the court prior to sentencing.

(DALLAS, Ore. ) - Jack Wayne Hamilton Polk County District Attorney Aaron Felton announced Tuesday the conviction and sentencing of Jack Wayne Hamilton to ten years in prison for an attack that occurred in West Salem's Wallace Marine Park in November of 2013.

Hamilton pled guilty before Judge Sally L. Avera to Rape in the First Degree, Sodomy in the First Degree, Unlawful Sexual Penetration in the First Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Independence Man Injured in Hit and Run Crash

The suspect faces a long list of charges, including Failure to Install Ignition Interlock Device.

(NEWBERG, Ore. ) - Oregon State Police Oregon State Police arrested a 35-year-old man following an injury hit and run traffic crash Tuesday morning on Highway 219 south of Newberg.

The suspect driver was found in his crashed vehicle after continuing from the scene before stopped east of Highway 219 on Champoeg Road NE.

Salem-Keizer Transit to Offer Free Shuttle Service to Oregon State Fair

The last shuttle leaves the fairgrounds 30 minutes after the fair ends.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Keizer Transit Cherriots is excited to announce, after a 5 year absence, that they are partnering with the Oregon State Fair to provide free shuttle service to the fair from downtown.

The shuttle will run August 22 through September 1. Weekday shuttle service will run every 30 minutes; weekend and holiday service will run every 15 minutes.

At approximately 11:17 p.m. an OSP trooper attempted to stop a Cadillac CTS passenger car for traveling 82 mph in a 60 mph speed zone on Interstate 5.

Oregon Berry Harvester Rolls Over Injuring Six

This was determined to be an industrial accident and OSHA is investigating the incident.

(SANDY, Ore. ) - Oregon Berry Accident The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a traffic accident Monday on Hwy 211 near SE 362nd Drive near of the city of Sandy.

A berry harvester was backing up to line up on a row of berries and either a hose or a fitting broke and the harvester lost its hydraulic fluid, which cause the brakes to go out.

Police Come Under Heavy Gunfire in Ferguson; 31 Arrested

State Highway Patrol Captain Ron Johnson, briefing reporters on Monday's night's violence, said "our officers came under heavy gunfire" in one area.

(FERGUSON, Missouri) - Ferguson Missouri Violence Police said early on Tuesday they came under heavy gunfire and arrested 31 people during another night of racially charged protests in Ferguson, Missouri, sparked by the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager by a white policeman 10 days ago.

Demonstrations, mostly peaceful but with spasms of violence by smaller groups, have flared since Michael Brown, 18, was shot dead while walking down a residential street on August 9.

Fire Rips Through West Salem Home

The fire burned so hot, that it melted the siding off the home next door to the east.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - West Salem Fire A home in West Salem has been declared unlivable, and another home was damaged after a two alarm house fire Monday afternoon.

Salem Fire Department spokesman Laird Case says two people were inside the home, while another was outside when the fire broke out around 2:45 p.m. Case said that the homes occupants tried with buckets of water and a garden hose to put the fire out, but the fire spread to fast, and they called 9-1-1.

(GRANT COUNTY, Ore.) - Joy Graves Long time front-line cannabis freedom fighter Joy Graves has been indicted on the charge of "Cultivation of Marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school" which is a Class "A" felony, punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment and a $300,000 fine. She goes to court for the first time August 19, 2014.

Compared to nearly every other police action regarding marijuana in Oregon, this was an incredibly small bust, though still a feather in the cap of local law officials.
