Driver Charged in I-5 Crash on Sunday

The driver, however, remains in critical condition at a Portland hospital.

(SALEM) - The Oregon State Police have charged the driver in a vehicle accident on I-5 on Sunday afternoon.

Sgt. Dale Young says around 2:00 PM, a red 1194 Ford Ranger pickup was northbound on I-5, when the driver attempted to pass another vehicle.

That caused the Ranger to lose control and roll over, covering all 3 lanes of I-5, coming to rest on the right hand shoulder of the road.

The other vehicle sustained minor damage and the occupants were not injured Young said.

Interesting and non climactic, they are the exact same clips that were released shortly after September 11th. They show nothing new, and they do not in any way, shape or form, depict a 757 airliner striking the Pentagon.

That is because, short of hiring Spielberg to recreate the entire thing in a Hollywood studio, experts say it isn`t possible.

Local Students to be Honored For Turning Their Lives Around

(SALEM) - A student from each middle and high school in Salem and Keizer will be honored with a Turnaround Achievement Award at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, May 24th at Willamette Lutheran Homes, 7693 Wheatland Road, in Keizer.

The award is given to students who have made a significant effort to turn their lives around and get back on track to success.

The award was created more than twelve years ago by Don and Ann Lebold, owners of Town and Country Lanes in Keizer and business partners with Salem-Keizer, as a way to recognize and encourage students to continue to seek life's positive rewards.

(SALEM) - The Marion County Sheriff`s Office Cold Case Squad is asking for the public`s help in locating a possible witness relating to an unsolved homicide investigation from the early 1980s.

The possible witness has been identified as Don Smith, who is believed to have resided at 1085 Madison Street NE, Salem, Oregon, during the early 1980s.

Senate Bypasses Security for Immigration

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Buoyed by President Bush, supporters of immigration legislation established command in the Senate on Tuesday, brushing aside potentially crippling challenges to a bill that blends tougher border enforcement with a path to citizenship for millions in the United States illegally.

"It was a good way to start," said Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo. as a shifting bipartisan coalition held firm against attacks from the left and the right.

On a vote of 55-40 that crossed party lines, the Senate rejected an appeal from Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., to require the border be secured before other immigration law changes could take place.

Anything less would mean "a wink and a nod one more time to those who would come here" unlawfully, said the Georgia Republican. The bill's supporters said he had it backward. "We have to have a comprehensive approach if we're going to gain control of the borders," said Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., echoing Bush's remarks of the night before.

(SALEM) - Flames from a fire in south Salem reportedly shot 200 feet in the air Tuesday, escaping the attention of few who looked in the direction of south Salem`s industrial area around 12:30 PM.

Salem Fire`s Bill Holmstrom says that just before 12:30 PM Tuesday, the plant manager of Salem Black top and Asphalt at McGilchrist SE and 22nd Street SE, was informed that one of their tanks was on fire.

Mary`s Peak Road Now Open

(CORVALLIS) - The road to the top of Mary`s Peak is finally clear of snow and open to the public.

Road maintenance crews from the Siuslaw National Forest were able to clear the road of rocks, limbs and other winter debris this past week, providing safe access to this popular locale.

`The snow that had been lingering on the north side of Mary`s Peak has finally melted, and maintenance crews have been able to clear the road,` said Deputy District Ranger Bill Blackwell.

No injuries in Huge Salem Fire

(SALEM) - A fire that broke out around 12:00 noon at Salem Black Top and Asphalt sent smoke and flames towering into the sky over south Salem.

Fortunately, Salem Fire Spokesman Bill Holmstrom says nobody was injured in the 2-alarm blaze in the 1500 block of McGilchrist Road SE.

Video Footage Reported to be Pentagon 9/11 Jet Crash Going Public

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - The Pentagon said Tuesday it planned to release video images of American Airlines Flight 77 crashing into the military headquarters building and killing 184 people in the Sept. 11th, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The images, recorded by a Pentagon security camera, were to be released in response to a Freedom of Information Act request by Judicial Watch, a public interest group.
