Teen Girl Dies in Bizarre Vancouver Stabbing

(VANCOUVER, WA) - Vancouver Police officers responded to a McDonald's restaurant Thursday night just after 8:00 PM to a report of a stabbing.

Officers arriving on the scene found a juvenile female who had been stabbed several times. She was taken to Emanuel hospital in Portland and died shortly after 9:00 PM. The victim was an employee of the restaurant.

Witnesses say the man appeared to have randomly entered the building, when he approached the girl and attacked her.

Basic Rights Oregon Launches Vote Equality Campaign

(PORTLAND) - Basic Rights Oregon today announced the launch of its 2006 Vote Equality campaign, with the release of its first-ever online voter guide and the announcement of thirty-two endorsements in 2006 Oregon electoral races.

Smith, Wyden Announce $400,000 Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Grant for Oregon

The award will be distributed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - -U.S. Senators Gordon Smith and Ron Wyden announced Thursday that the State of Oregon will receive a $400,000 Garrett Lee Smith Memorial grant to implement a youth suicide prevention and intervention plan.

"It`s hard to imagine the pain of thousands of children who are now suffering in silence and that of their families who just want to help," said Smith.

"This grant is especially important to me because it will make a difference in the place where Garrett grew up and the community he loved."

Amnesty For Late Fees, Dog Licenses, Vaccinations Offered During May Event at Humane Society

All dog owners and keepers in Marion County are required by law to purchase a license when a dog reaches six months of age.

(SALEM) - An event next month will help you protect your families best friend!

Marion County Dog Control is offering amnesty for late fees and licensing violations as well as licenses and vaccinations from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Saturday, May 6, at the Willamette Humane Society, 4246 Turner Rd SE.

Dr. Susan MacCarthy, DVM, will be providing low-cost vaccinations, health exams, microchipping and flea products for both cats and dogs from her mobile clinic.

Rabies vaccinations for dogs will be $10.50.

The newly remodeled Lifeline AIDS Project Thrift Store benefits Marion, Polk and Linn County residents who live with HIV and AIDS.

Bradbury Sues Voting Vendor

(SALEM) - - Secretary of State Bill Bradbury has filed a lawsuit against Election Systems & Software, Inc. (ES&S), for breach of contract for failure to deliver the electronic voting machines that would allow people with disabilities to vote privately and independently.

The Help America Vote Act of 2002 requires, among other things, that all states provide people with disabilities the ability to vote with the same privacy and independence as all other citizens by a deadline of January 1st, 2006. The federal government can impose penalties on states
that fail to meet this requirement, including withdrawal and withholding of federal funds available for elections improvements.

Investigation Leads to Drug Arrests in Scio

(SCIO) - Linn County drug officers surrounded a Scio home Wednesday armed with a search warrant, believing the residence to be a place of ongoing drug activity.

Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says his detectives, along with the Linn Drug Task Force, executed the search warrant at 41959 Kingston-Lyons Drive near Scio, "This warrant was a follow-up to a search warrant served at the same residence by the Linn County Sheriff's Office, the Linn Drug Taskforce and the Marion County Sheriff's Office on February 8th."

The sheriff says the February search warrant was a response to more than a year of investigation into extensive drug activity at the Kingston-Lyons address, the home of 50-year old Leslie Loren Hilderbrand.

Copies of campaign finance reports filed last week show that Democrats might be feeling political heat for opposing tough new penalties on sexual predators.

Proponents of the idea have been forced to take the idea to the ballot in the form of an initiative.
