April is Child Abuse Prevention Month in Oregon

(SALEM) - A rally on the capitol steps Tuesday marks the beginning of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Marion County Sheriff Raul Ramirez says there is still a long way to go in healing the problem.

"It's still a problem and government alone can't solve this problem by ourselves. It has to be a hollistic approach; the whole community."

The signs of child abuse can be hard to detect, but experts say the worst circumstances can sometimes be avoided if more crimes against children are reported.

As the consultant to the state's oral health program, I'd like to offer a perspective on the report and share some important facts about fluoridation.

The report, commissioned by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is intended to guide the EPA in developing standards for water systems with naturally occurring fluoride concentrations that serve about one-half of one percent of the nation's population.

Luke is remembered in history as `The Arizona Balloon Buster` because his specialty, along with his wingman Joe Wehner, was shooting down and `flaming` Hydrogen-filled German observation balloons that loomed over the front lines. It was dangerous work, and both were killed doing it.

(SALEM) - Veterans, Oregon National Guard soldiers and Salem-area businesses joined forces Wednesday to celebrate and acknowledge the service of veterans who live at the Madrona Hills Estates, and to send care packages to 50 Oregon soldiers serving today in Iraq.

Governor Issues Order to Combat Homelessness

Executive Order creates Ending Homeless Advisory Council

(PORTLAND) - Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski issued an executive order Tuesday, and injected new urgency into the fight against homelessness by creating an `Ending Homelessness Advisory Council.`

`To make real progress in fighting homelessness, we need to build on what we have already accomplished,` the Governor told a gathering of federal, state and local officials at a ceremony in Portland`s Hotel Alder. `We need to take serious and aggressive steps to address the vast range of problems that lead to homelessness in the first place.`

The 24-member Ending Homelessness Advisory Council (EHAC) will serve as the designated state entity in the fight to end homelessness, the Governor said. In addition to serving as an advocate for the homeless within state government, EHAC will develop a 10-year plan and collaborate on implementing local plans to end homelessness.
