North Salem High School JROTC Teams Qualify for Northwest Regional Championships

Color Guard A and the Unarmed Drill Team earned Cascade Division regular season championships -- North Salem 's first in eight years of competition.

(SALEM) - The North Salem High School JROTC Color Guard B, and A have qualified for the Northwest Regional Championships.

On Saturday, March 11th, North Salem High School 's JROTC teams competed in their final regular drill meet of the 2005-2006 season at Rogers High School in Spokane, Washington.

State Late With Special Voting Machines

In Oregon's case, the missed deadline was caused by a contract dispute with a supplier.

(PORTLAND AP) - The nation's only 100 percent vote-by-mail state -- yes, Oregon -- is in danger of violating federal law.

This, because it likely won't have voting machines designed for people with disabilities in place for the May primary.

Under the 2002 Help America Vote Act, states must have a machine in every polling place that allows disabled people to vote independently and privately.

Oregon Jobless Rate up Slightly in February

Overall in February, there were about 122-thousand people unemployed in Oregon

(PORTLAND AP) - The Oregon jobless rate has increased slightly in February.

But the state is the fifth fastest growing economy in the nation.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was five-point-six percent in February.

That's up from five-point-three percent in January.

Oregon Family Members Missing 17 Days Found

Six disappeared March 4th in 35-foot motor home in snowy mountains

(MEDFORD- AP) - Six family members missing in a recreational vehicle since March 4th were found alive Tuesday in a remote, snowy section of Southern Oregon, authorities said.

U.S. Bureau of Land Management workers first found two of the family members, who had decided to walk out of the woods and left the vehicle, sheriff's deputies said.

Later, search and rescue workers in a helicopter made contact with the other four, said Sgt. David Marshall, spokesman for the Douglas County sheriff's department.

What Really Hit The Pentagon?

I remember national news reports, or should I say accounts, of the plane having "bounced" off the lawn in front of the Pentagon before it struck. I remember just nodding my head, it wasn't something to question at the time...

(SALEM) - I had a friend ask the other day if I'd heard about the strange circumstances behind the crash of the Boeing 757 jet into the Pentagon on September 11th, 2001. What he told me sent a chill down my spine, I almost wish I could have gone longer without knowing it.

I had not paid attention to that particular aspect of September 11th in detail honestly, it was a tragedy among other national tragedies that day. I just remember being so overwhelmed and shocked that it wasn't only New York, that other locations in the U.S. had also been struck.

Half Pound of Meth Seized by Keizer Police

(KEIZER) - Police officers in Keizer say they seized over half a pound of crystal meth Monday night during the arrest of two men who had been under investigation for suspected drug activity.

Sgt. Jeff Isham of the Department`s Community Response Unit took the men into custody on a number of related charges.

For officers like Jeff Isham, the half-pound haul was bigger than usual, `The street value of the methamphetamine is approximately $5,500.`

AG Myers Announces $171.7 Million Rigging Settlement

(SALEM) - Attorney General Hardy Myers today announced that Oregon has entered into a $171.7 million settlement agreement with Zurich American Insurance Company of Schaumburg, Illinois related to bid rigging and price fixing allegations.

Feds Approve Gov`s Request for Disaster Relief

FEMA Declares Disaster Over Winter Flooding in Oregon, making aid available.

(SALEM) - The federal government has approved Governor Ted Kulongoski`s request for declaration of a major disaster in Oregon, resulting from severe storms that battered the state in December and January.

`I`m grateful for this timely action to approve my request, and I`m anxious to start reimbursing local governments and state agencies for the costs of dealing with this disaster,` Governor Kulongoski said. `I`m proud of the effort that state and local officials made, not only to protect lives and property that the storms endangered, but also to help minimize the expense to taxpayers.`

Oregon FHS Headquarters Building to be Renamed in Honor of Governor Roberts

A permanent display will be unveiled in the building lobby, chronicling Governor Roberts' contributions to Oregon human services.

(SALEM) - A ceremony this week will rename the Oregon Department of Human Services building in Salem for a former Oregon governor who spent much of her career advocating for Oregonians' unmet human services needs.

The dedication of the Barbara Roberts Human Services Building is set for 11:00 AM, Wednesday, in the lobby of the DHS headquarters building, 500 Summer St. N.E.

Three Oregon governors will participate in the ceremony -- Governor Kulongoski and former governors Barbara Roberts and Victor Atiyeh, as well as other elected officials and former DHS directors.

Oregon Bicycling Summit April 1st in Eugene

(EUGENE) - Communities interested in turning Oregon into a premier bicycling state have a chance to share that feeling by attending the Oregon Bicycling Summit April 1st in Eugene.
