(SALEM, Ore.) - Viewers' questions and comments are responded to in this segment with Dr. Phil Leveque on the subject of medical marijuana. Dr. Leveque suffers from a cold in this video, but still manages to share advice, experience and suggestions with his usual creative flair.

We discuss one elderly mother who suffers from spinal problems and more creating unending, chronic pain, and takes several pain killers. She is concerned about addiction, but her doctor does not support medical marijuana's use. As she is in an assisted care facility, her daughter is attempting to learn how to help her mother without causing her legal issues.

Dr. Leveque points out that the mother is already addicted to the Vicadin she's taking, but that marijuana was once used to help people withdraw from opium and opiates, so it would be a good choice. Also discussed are options for ingestion of medical marijuana without smoking or vaporizers, as those create an odor, and in many cases that is not appropriate.

We remind viewers how the process for attaining a medical marijuana permit in Oregon is accomplished. Simply download the forms online, through the State's OMMP site, get a doctor's signature, and send all your information in with the fee. More details are available on the OMMP site.

Getting a medical marijuana permit is not a prescription to buy marijuana. It is only a permit to legally grow and use the herb medicinally.

Another question referred to a situation in California, where a man suffers from chronic back pain and takes prescription drugs, he would like to try medical marijuana, but he is on probation. Dr. Leveque says they are separate issues, and tells the viewer to go get legal. There are 160+ legal medical marijuana dispensaries in California, so once a permit is obtained, getting medicine should not be a problem. This is not the case in any of the other 11 legal states, but we discuss how they are leading the way in California.

Dr. Leveque has treated about 100 fibromyalgia patients and several questions have been taken regarding this ailment. It is a debilitating disease that has only been recognized in the last many years for the problem that it is. Dr. Leveque was the first to learn that medical marijuana works for fibromyalgia.

NOTE: Dr. Leveque and Bonnie refer to a book that he recommends called How - To Marijuana A Step-by-Step Guide to Medical Marijuana by Carol S. Bott RN, who is a chemical dependency nurse.

This is an example of the type of work that is coming forward as the medical aspects of marijuana quickly continue to reveal new potential for the treatment of multiple afflictions, up to and including cancer.

Orders for How - To Marijuana A Step-by-Step Guide to Medical Marijuana can be placed online with Barnes & Noble, Amazon, direct from the publishers Bookstore at iuniverse.com, Booksamillion and through Carol's website at carolsbott.com. They are in the process of getting Carol set up with a blog so she can answer questions and write more about medical marijuana. We'll let you know more about that when it is ready.

I think you need to stop saying people are addicted to pain killers. They are not. They are DEPENDENT upon them but not addicted. They don't use them to get high which is a definition of addiction. Otherwise, I highly agree that a natural product of earth should be allowed to help you treat yourself. Thanks for your promotion of a thousands of year old medicinal plant no one has a right to make illegal.
