Medical Marijuana and Dr. Oz: Shame for Misinformation Propaganda

Dr. Oz, you probably are a good surgeon but Marijuana therapeutics is obviously NOT your forte.

Dr. Oz
Dr. Oz

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - Dr. Oz, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read The Oregonian Dec. 15, 2010 with the headline for your article Medical Marijuana Is Not An All-Purpose Healer. I have no idea who flummoxed you into writing this but as a physician from Turkey you should know better. Marijuana has been used as medicine in your country, Turkey, for at least 1000 years. Here for only 200.

I have been a Pharmacology & Toxicology professor for 50 years. I’m going down your list and correcting you about Marijuana’s usefulness:

(1) for Cancer pain it is better than most opiates

(2) for nausea of Cancer and HIV/AIDS it is better than most anti-emetics AND anti-nausea medicines

(3) for anorexia of Cancer and HIV/AIDS it can’t be beat

(4) for nerve pain it is better than most opiates

I will continue to correct you as I follow your article. It can be smoked (not recommended – use a vaporizer instead!) and can be eaten in lemon bars or any other cookie or cake. “Hand rolled” joints are passé – use a vaporizer, it’s much better.

Marijuana/Cannabis does cause vasodilation and recent medical articles indicate it IS good for high blood pressure. It is excellent for diabetic neuropathy which is very painful. It has been found useful for Alzheimers rage.

Marijuana/Cannabis has effectively supplemented many standard pharmaceuticals (search my article Marijuana Replaces Many Drugs).

You refer to Marijuana Carcinogens. Using a vaporizer eliminates them producing beneficial medicine ONLY. Tobacco kills millions. Marijuana never killed anybody.

Modern U.S. medical literature sponsored & paid for by U.S. Government prints only bad stuff about Cannabis. I have about 5000 Medical Marijuana patients and none ever reported anything about heart attacks. As far as “brain drain” is concerned it is a mild inebriant, call it tipsy. I had about 50 Multiple Sclerosis patients. They prefer it to ANY other medicine.

Weakend Immunity System has been studied in HIV/AIDS patients. Marijuana is probable neutral on this.

Lung damage is another “red herring”. Use a vaporizer and eliminate this.

You tout Marinol pills. In effective doses, it causes anxiety reactions and panic attacks. These are not helpful.

Dr. Oz, you probably are a good surgeon but Marijuana therapeutics is obviously NOT your forte.

World Fairs and International Expositions from the 1860s through the early 1900s often featured a popular Turkish Hashish Smoking exposition and concession. Hashish smoking was entirely new for Americans; its effects came on much faster. However, smoking hashish was only about one-third as strong or long lasting as orally ingesting the cannabis extract medicines that even American children were regularly prescribed.

At America’s giant 100-year 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, fair goers took their friends and family to partake (smoke) at the extremely popular Turkish Hashish Exposition, so as to “enhance” their fair experience.

By 1883, similar hashish smoking parlors were legally open in every major American city, including New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, St. Louis, New Orleans, and so on.

The Police Gazette estimated there were more than 500 hashish smoking parlors in New York City in the 1880s and it was estimated by the NYPD that there were still 500 or more hashish parlors in N.Y.C. in the 1920s—more of these parlors than there were “speakeasys” during the same 1920s alcohol prohibition period.

to AGREED: it is against the law to impersonate and hand out medical advise over the airwaves, and forging a license for profit?? do you live in a cave? im absolutely positive this isnt the case, forging a license for profit, giving unguided medical advice without disclaimers, hmmm..thats a few felonies right there according to you, i guess thats just retoric jargon coming from a conserative, live in a cave on some issues, bath in the sun on others. typical.

Thank you Doctor Leveque!! You were my Dr. when i lived in Oregon. Now I live in a state that does not have medical cannabis. I have pain every day. Because I have Bi-polar, Dr.'s only give me ibuprofen(800)MG once a day! I have been jailed 3 times for less than three grams of cannabis, so I do not dare use, without my medical card to protect me! Dr. Oz is wrong and thank you for calling him on it!! I will continue the fight to reform the laws that put innocent people in jail.

There is nothing more unjust and un-American than our current draconian anti-marijuana laws. USA is committing a crime against humanity.

Also check out the study from university of madrid that showed vasoconstriction and reversal of vascular growth in tumors leading along with 40-60% tumor reduction size on a study of over 50,000 mice implanted with human tumors. Then read about CB2 interaction which repairs mutated p53 genes (needed for apoptosis and 100% of tumors to be mutated)

Yeah, Dr. Oz isn't even a real doctor. Oprah paid to have his license forged so that she could profit off selling commercials during his show. I would never take medical advice from him because he is an actor and not an acutual M.D. Too bad subrurban housewives don't understand that yet, at least they are the ones smoking the most medical marijuana! Conservatives 4 Legalization!
