Demand International Aid that Helps - Rather Than Harms - Palestinians

A majority of the aid money that goes to Palestine is laden with stipulations according to the donor country’s preferences, priorities and values.

(BOSTON) - Between 1999 and 2009, international aid to Palestine increased by over 600 percent to $3.25 billion.¹

But, while billions of dollars are being spent, very little is actually being done to reduce poverty, increase rights, and promote stability in the region – and even less helps fund sustainable solutions.

This is why we’re asking you to lend your name to help to reform the international aid system.

A majority of the aid money that goes to Palestine is laden with stipulations according to the donor country’s preferences, priorities and values. The distorting influence donor countries possess in the aid system severely limits Palestinian self-determination and influence over their lives.

Our ally, the Dalia Association, and other Palestinian NGOs would like you to join the global movement for aid reform today.

All names collected by November 14th will be delivered to the Fourth High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness – an influential venue for global discussions about international aid policy.

Although Palestine’s political context is unique, the challenges it faces with international aid mirror other countries and regions – including many of the areas where our partners work. International aid, when applied with misguided restrictions or without input from those on the receiving end, can breed dependency while ignoring the root causes of suffering.

I encourage you to sign on to the petition demanding aid reform and allowing Palestinians to determine how to best use aid money.

In solidarity,

P.S. Read Dalia’s research report about what Palestinian operated NGOs said are the barriers and solutions to international aid. I hope you’ll join Grassroots in demanding for aid reform before the November 14th deadline.
