Paton Nabs Silver in Varsity Debut

Ducks take third at Giustina Memorial Classic.

(CORVALLIS, Ore,) - University of Oregon's John PatonJohn Paton shot a final round 69 to lead Oregon to a third place finish Tuesday at the season-opening Giustina Memorial Classic, played at the par-72, 7,030-yard Trysting Tree Golf Course.

Paton’s 69 left him at 8-under 208 overall and alone in second place, just one shot back of tournament champion Trent Sanders of Washington State, who had a 71 and finished at 207.

Not bad for a redshirt-sophomore from Hillsborough, Calif., playing in his first varsity tournament at Oregon.

Little & No. 22 Duck Women's Golfers Lead Giustina Classic Day 1

Overall on the individual leaderboard, Little held a five-stroke advantage over Wyoming’s Juanita Rico (second, 72-75-147), and Oregon State’s Cara Freeman stood third overall (74-76-15).

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Oregon DucksJunior Kendra Little and the No. 22 University of Oregon women’s golf comfortably team led the individual and team standings Monday in the opening two rounds of the Giustina Memorial Classic.

The Ducks carded the lowest scores of the opening two rounds (296-302-598) and held a 19-stroke advantage over Wyoming (second, 304-313-617), while host Oregon State and Washington State stood third (305-315-620) and fourth (309-312-621), respectively, in the 10-team field.

OSU Men’s Soccer Falls at Home to Northern Illinois, 2-0

The Beavers take the field again in the Hensor/Zaher Memorial Classic finale when they take on the Red Foxes of Marist College Sunday Sept. 27 at 1:00 p.m.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - OSU Beavers logoThe Oregon State men’s soccer team fell in a 2-0 heartbreaker to Northern Illinois Friday night in front of a packed house at Paul Lorenz Field in the second game of the Hensor/Zaher Memoiral Classic.

“I thought our guys played really tough,” Oregon State head coach Steve Simmons said after the game. “It’s one of those games that if you win, it’s not as good as it looks, and if you lose, than it’s not as bad as it looks. There are a lot of positives from this game.”

Sweeney, Mansfield Score Goals in Oregon Soccer's 2-0 Win Over PSU‏

Oregon (7-1-1) returns to action next weekend with road matches against BYU and Weber State. The Ducks will battle the Cougars on Thursday, Oct. 1, before closing the weekend with a Saturday morning match against the Wildcats.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Soccer ballSenior defender Danielle Sweeney and junior forward Rianna Mansfield scored goals to lead the University of Oregon soccer team to its sixth straight victory on Friday night, a 2-0 home win over Portland State. The win improved the Ducks' record to 7-1-1 overall, while PSU dropped to 4-5-1.

"I thought we played good soccer tonight," head coach Tara Erickson said. "I liked our mentality to keep the ball and to solve pressure (from PSU). I thought our attack was very dynamic."

Volleyball: Bearcats Fall To Boxers, 3-1

Blankenship Achieves 13 Kills and 28 Digs for Willamette.

(FOREST GROVE, Ore.) - Willamette Univ logoThe Willamette University volleyball team was defeated by Pacific University, 3-1, on Friday, Sept. 25. The Bearcats started out strong, winning the first set 25-18. Pacific battled back to win the next three sets, however, 25-11, 30-28 and 25-13.

The Bearcats were led by senior Jessie McGraw (OH, Gaston, OR/Yamhill-Carlton HS/Corban College) during the first set. McGraw recorded four kills during the set, as the Bearcats got off to a strong start. During the set, WU took advantage of nine hitting errors made by the Boxers to help the Bearcats register a 25-18 win.

Bruins Streak Past Missionaries for First NWC Win.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - Goerge Fox University logoRunning off winning streaks of seven, eight, and six points to build leads in three consecutive sets, the George Fox University Bruins picked up their first Northwest Conference win of the season 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 20-18) over the Whitman College Missionaries in women’s volleyball action Friday night here at the Wheeler Sports Center’s Miller Gym.

In set one, a kill by Eliza Pledger ignited a 7-0 run that boosted the Bruins from an 11-6 lead to 18-6, with Ali Toedtemeier doing the serving honors, including one ace.

Tradition-Rich Teams to be Featured at Dellinger Invitational

Villanova, Oregon, UTEP have 27 combined NCAA Championships.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Bill Dellinger InvitationalMore than half of the men’s field for the Bill Dellinger Invitational will be ranked among the nation’s top 30, while the women will have three of the country’s top 13 teams as the squads for the fourth annual cross country race were announced on Tuesday.

The Bill Dellinger Invitational will be held on Oct. 2 at Springfield Country Club. The women’s race begins at 3:30 p.m., with the men going off at 4:15 p.m.

W F West won the meet with 21 points, Tumwater and River Ridge High Schools followed respectively

(OLYMPIA, Wash.) - Simon Fraser has a long history of winning team titles at the Pete Steilberg Cross Country Classic and were back on top this year after both their men and women's teams finished 2nd in '08.

Today the women scored a perfect 15 points, snagging the top 7 spots in the 5k race. The top Geoduck performance at the meet was by Senior Brian Rakestraw (Woodinville, WA) who finished third overall in 25:56.83.
