(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Laurie Cavanaugh, wife of Mike Cavanaugh, Oregon State University assistant football coach, underwent living-donor kidney transplant surgery and removal of both of her diseased kidneys at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital Tues., May 29th.
Her donor is 34-year-old OSU offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf.
The transplant was performed to treat Laurie’s autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, an inherited disorder that affects approximately 1 in 1,000 people. Read Full Article

(OKLAHOMA CITY) - Oregon freshman shortstop Jenn Salling was named to the 2007 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first team on Wednesday, announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Salling, a redshirt freshman, is the first Oregon player to receive first team All-American accolades since Julie Cavanaugh in 1991.
Voted the Pac-10 Conference Newcomer of the Year earlier this month, Salling is just the third player in Oregon softball history to be named to the All-America first team. Read Full Article

(SALEM, Ore.) - Four more recruits, including 6-foot-1 senior Rachel Harter (Grass Valley, Calif.) from Bear River High School, signed Letters of Intent Wednesday to play for the Warriors and ninth-year head Terry Williams beginning in 2007-08.
Harter joins fellow incoming high senior Samantha Navarre (Kenai, Alaska), as well as junior college transfers Ashley Connell (Spokane, Wash.) from Wenatchee Valley College and Tamitha Lambrecht (Grandview, Wash.) from Walla Walla Community College.
Fifth-year head men's basketball coach Justin Sherwood also added Cascade High School senior and Capitol Conference co-Player of the Year Nash Keene (Aumsville, Ore.) to the list of recruits for the 2007-08 season. Read Full Article

Tim Duncan and Tony Parker scored 21 points apiece despite sitting out the bulk of the fourth quarter, when San Antonio's lead ballooned to as large as 29.

(ANAHEIM, Calif. ) - Sammy Pahlsson, a finalist for the Selke Trophy as the NHL’s top defensive forward, was the offensive hero for Anaheim Wednesday night, scoring the lone goal of Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final as the Ducks blanked the Ottawa Senators, 1-0, to grab a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Pahlsson took advantage of a neutral-zone turnover by Ottawa’s Dany Heatley to gain the Senators’ zone with some speed.
Racing past Daniel Alfredsson, Pahlsson snapped a shot from the dot of the right circle through the legs of defenseman Joe Corvo and past the stick side of goalie Ray Emery for the goal at 14:16 of the third period. Read Full Article

(McMINNVILLE, Ore. ) - Hard-working football player Mike Ketler has been named the male recipient of the Vern Marshall Award, saluting the Linfield athlete who demonstrates the greatest tenacity and perseverance.
Ketler, a defensive tackle from Salem, Ore., developed himself into an all-conference player through sheer determination and hard work in the weight room.
He was only lightly recruited to Linfield as a football player and arrived on campus as an undersized, 220-pound defensive end. Read Full Article

(McMINNVILLE, Ore.) - Lisa Smith, senior captain of the Linfield softball team, has been named the female recipient of the Vern Marshall Award, recognizing the Linfield athletes with the greatest tenacity and perseverance.
Smith, a four-year starter in the outfield for the Wildcats’ conference, regional and national championship team, believed her career was over just seven games into the 2007 season.
She suffered two broken bones in her forearm after a violent collision while sliding into home plate against Puget Sound. Read Full Article

(NEWBERG, Ore. ) - Slugging right fielder Dan Wentzell of George Fox University has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-West Region First Team, while three of his Bruin teammates - center fielder Drew Johnson, second baseman Pat Bailey, and starting pitcher Nick Bratney - have received Third Team honors.
Wentzell, a senior from Tualatin, Ore., led the Northwest Conference in slugging pct. (.658), RBI (55), and total bases (102), and ranked second in doubles (16), home runs (8), and hits (60), third in batting (.387), on base pct. (CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Oregon State junior golfer James Allenby, who just completed one of the best seasons in school history, added to his honor roll by being named to the Golf Coaches Association of America/PING All-Pacific Region team.
Allenby (Langley, B.C./Langley Secondary/UTEP), in his first season with the Beavers, set a new school record for single-season scoring average with a mark of 71.59, nearly a full stroke better than the previous record.
He earned All-Pac-10 honorable mention honors after finishing 14th at the Pac-10 Championships. Read Full Article
