GNAC Softball: Wolves, Wildcats Washed Out

Western Oregon will next host Saint Martin's.

The contests, which were non-conference games, will not be made up.


The two teams were in the top of the third inning in the first game, playing in a steady rain, when the field became unplayable.

NWC Baseball: Willamette, Pacific Series Rescheduled Due to Rain

Willamette enters the series with an overall record of 15-18, including 7-13 in the NWC.

The Bearcats and the Boxers will play a doubleheader on Sunday, starting at noon and will close out their Northwest Conference series with a single game on Monday, at 4:30 PM.

NASCAR Busch Series: Clint Bowyer Takes Bashas' Supermarkets 200

Carl Edwards finished fifth to extend his points lead over Dave Blaney to 424 points.

(PHOENIX) - busch series logoClint Bowyer had come close before in NASCAR Busch Series competition at PIR, but for the 27-year-old driver of the No. 2 Camping World/RVs.com Chevrolet, close was far from good enough.

Bowyer waged a head-to-head battle with Matt Kenseth down the stretch of the Bashas' Supermarkets 200, swapping the lead with the veteran driver several times in the waning laps and finally taking over for good on Lap 187 to win his first event of the 2007 season.

(BLACKSBURG, Va. ) - virginia tech ribbonAn English Field record 3,132 fans turned out on Friday night to witness the first Virginia Tech athletic event in Blacksburg since Monday's tragic events, and they nearly saw the Hokies pull off the improbable before falling 11-9 to the Miami Hurricanes in Atlantic Coast Conference baseball action.

Down 10-5 in the eighth inning, Tech mounted a furious comeback that was cut just short by an incredible catch at the wall that robbed Tech shortstop Warren Schaeffer of a game-tying home run.

The Ducks have now dropped their last four games in Pac-10 play.

(TEMPE, Arizona) - oregon ducks softballThe Oregon Ducks made a valiant effort on Friday night to erase Arizona State’s four-run lead in the seventh, but it was too little to late as the seventh-ranked Sun Devils defeated 14th-ranked Oregon, 4-2 at Farrington Stadium.

Arizona State’s Katie Burkhart proved why she is one of the top pitchers in the nation, pitching a perfect game through six innings, but Oregon senior second baseman Suzie Barnes spoiled that attempt leading off the seventh with a walk.

Oregon concludes its spring practice with three workouts next week prior to holding its annual Spring Game beginning at 2:00 PM Saturday in Autzen Stadium.

(EUGENE) - Dennis Dixon photoThe Oregon offense grabbed back a measure of respect, accounting for four touchdowns and a 41-yard field goal, as they took charge for the majority of the 65-minute scrimmage Friday afternoon in Autzen Stadium as the Ducks concluded their third week of spring workouts.

Quarterback Dennis Dixon led the first-team offense on a nine-play, 75-yard scoring drive against the first-team defense on the opening series, capped by a 5-yard touchdown pass to Jaison Williams.

No. 9 Oregon State Beats UNLV, 3-1

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Mike Stutes photoOregon State’s Mike Stutes struck out a career-high 12 hitters and combined with Eddie Kunz on a three-hitter as the ninth-ranked Beavers beat Nevada-Las Vegas 3-1 in non-conference baseball Friday evening at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

Mitch Canham had a two-run homer and a run-scoring single for OSU (29-8 overall, 4-5 Pac-10).

Canham hit his sixth homer of the year, a two-run drive to right-centerfield in the first inning, and added a run-scoring single through the left side in the fifth.

Fox just missed hitting for the cycle against the Beavers (33-14; 5-4 Pac-10), belting a triple, a double and a home run in consecutive at-bats and going 3-for-3 from the plate.
