NASCAR: Kevin Harvick, Mark Martin to Race at Iowa Speedway

Harvick edged Martin at the finish line to win this year’s Daytona 500.

(NEWTON, IA) - martin harvick photoKevin Harvick and Mark Martin – the top two finishers at this year’s Daytona 500 – will race at Iowa Speedway this year.

Harvick, driving for Richard Childress Racing, will race in the track’s first NASCAR race, the NASCAR Grand National East-West Sunday, May 20th.

Martin, driving for Ginn Racing, will race Friday night, July 13th, in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series race.

David Ragan Wins First NASCAR Busch Series Pole

The green flag for the O’Reilly 300 will drop at 2:15 PM CT Saturday. The race will be broadcast on ESPN2 and PRN Radio.

(FORT WORTH, Texas ) - busch series logoDavid Ragan added to his rookie resume in the NASCAR Busch Series on Thursday as he captured the pole position for Saturday’s O’Reilly 300 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Ragan, driver of the No. 6 Discount Tire Ford for Roush Fenway Racing, landed his first pole position in only his 15th NASCAR Busch Series start.

NEXTEL Cup drivers Kyle Busch, Casey Mears and Kasey Kahne round out the top five starting positions, respectively.

Pac-10 Baseball: No. 9 Oregon State to Battle Cal in Pac-10 Series

The Beavers go into the series with Cal off of back-to-back comeback wins.

(CORVALLIS) - osu player photoOregon State will be looking to gain ground in the Pac-10 baseball race this weekend when the ninth-ranked Beavers (26-7 overall, 2-4 Pac-10) greet California (17-17, 2-4) for a series with games Friday at 5:00 PM, Saturday at 1:00 PM and Sunday at 1:00 PM.

As Oregon State continues its longest homestand of the season, the Beavers will be looking to build momentum after taking two of three games from Southern California last weekend.

OSU and Cal are both tied with USC for fifth in the conference standings heading into the weekend.

OSU's Mike Riley to be Inducted Into the Winnipeg Hall of Fame

Riley’s 2006 team became only the second club in OSU history to win at least 10 games in a season.

(WINNIPEG, MB) - mike riley photoOne of the most successful head coaches in the history of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ organization will be inducted into the Winnipeg Football Club Hall of Fame in June, the football club announced Thursday.

Former Bomber, and current Oregon State head coach Mike Riley is the lone inductee into the football club’s Hall of Fame for 2007.

In his four seasons (1987-90) as the Blue & Gold’s head coach the team compiled a 40-32 regular season record.

Oregon State's Marcel Jones Declares for NBA Draft

“This announcement might surprise some people, but I think it will turn out to be a positive for Marcel,” OSU Coach Jay John said.

(CORVALLIS) - Marcel Jones PhotoJunior forward Marcel Jones of the Oregon State men’s basketball team announced today that he will make himself available for the 2007 NBA Draft by placing his name on the early-entry list.

However, Jones does not intend to hire an agent and has indicated that he is likely to return to the Beavers for the 2007-08 season.

Jones (Los Angeles, Calif./Mater Dei HS), a 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward, was Oregon State’s leading scorer as a junior as he averaged 15.3 points (eighth in the Pac-10 Conference).

PCL: Halsey, River Cats Shut Down Beavers

Portland starter Ryan Ketchner (0-1), who struck out six, gave up four runs and eight hits over 4 2/3 innings in the loss.

(SACRAMENTO) - portland beavers logoBrad Halsey struck out eight over 5 2/3 scoreless innings, and Kevin Melillo was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored as the Sacramento River Cats defeated the Portland Beavers 6-2 Wednesday at Raley Field.

Jeremy Brown hit a two-run home run as part of Sacramento’s three-run second inning, and Antonio Perez doubled and had two RBIs for the River Cats (4-3).

Halsey (1-0) yielded four hits and walked two to get his first win of the season.

Nik Raivio (Vancouver, Wash.), B.J. Porter (Layton, Utah) and Kramer Knutson (Mesa, Ariz.) will join previously signed recruits Luke Sikma (Bellevue, Wash.), Jared Stohl (Marysville, Wash.) and Jasonn Hannibal (Mississauga, Ontario) to comprise Portland’s 2007 recruiting class.

Oregon Rewards Kent with New Five-Year Contract

Kent’s total guaranteed annual compensation will be $1 million.

(EUGENE) - Ernie Kent photoUniversity of Oregon director of athletics Pat Kilkenny and men’s basketball coach Ernie Kent have reached an agreement in principle on a new five-year contract that will keep Kent at his alma mater through the 2011-12 season.

Oregon is coming off one of the best seasons in school history.

The Ducks were 29-8, winning 29 games for just the third time in school history and advancing to the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight for the second time this decade.
