(SALEM) - Facing local small college competition, Portland State athletes won nine events at the Willamette Invitational Saturday.
In total, the Vikings placed in the top three 26 different times.
Led by graduate student Amanda Kamm, PSU swept the women's 800-meter. Kamm ran a personal best time of two minutes, 12.65-seconds. Read Full Article

(LA GRANDE, Ore.) - Among Corban's softball team's 15 hits in the night cap of Friday's twin bill with Eastern Oregon, sophomore Rachel Steigleman hit a lead-off home run and freshman Siriana Guest went 5-for-5 with a three run homer to propel the Warriors to victory, 1-4 & 10-6.
Sophomore Erin Sailors returned to the circle for the Warriors in the opener, pitching four innings and striking out eight Eastern Oregon batters.
Sophomore Karlee Sisler came in for the final three innings and fanned one Mountaineer. Read Full Article

(PORTLAND) - Former University of Washington basketball player Phil Nelson will transfer to Portland State University and play basketball for the Vikings.
Nelson, who was a freshman for the Huskies during the 2006-07 season, will transfer to PSU this fall.

(PORTLAND) - Jack Cust drove in four runs and had three hits, including a double that resulted in the winning run in the 12th inning, as the Portland Beavers defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 10-9 before 7,522 on Opening Night at PGE Park Friday.
Royce Huffman singled with two outs in the 12th inning and came in to score the winning run when Cust doubled and right fielder Nate Schierholtz muffed the ball.
After falling behind 9-6 in the third, the Beavers, who broke a three-game skid, got a run back in the fifth.

(EUGENE) - After a 15-strikeout performance in 12th-ranked Washington’s 7-2 win over 10th-ranked Oregon on Friday afternoon at Howe Field, Huskies’ sophomore right-hander Danielle Lawrie is undefeated in three career starts against the Ducks.
Pitching her 16th complete game of the year, Lawrie held Oregon to two runs on six hits, while striking out 15 in the process.
The Ducks are now 37-6 on the season and 3-3 in the Pac-10 Conference. Washington, currently on a three-game winning streak, improves to 26-10 and 3-3 in the Pac-10.

(CORVALLIS) - Oregon State’s Mike Stutes and Eddie Kunz combined to pitch a four-hitter as the ninth-ranked Beavers beat California 1-0 in Pac-10 baseball Friday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
OSU (27-7 overall, 3-4 Pac-10) scored the game’s only run when Mitch Canham led off the sixth inning with a double and scored on Mike Lissman’s single.
Stutes improved his record to 8-1 this season, going 7 1/3 innings and allowing three hits and four walks while striking out six. He didn’t allow a hit until the fourth inning. Read Full Article

(CORVALLIS) - Senior pitcher Brianne McGowan became Oregon State’s all-time strikeouts leader as the No. 16 ranked Beavers dominated No. 14 UCLA by a 7-0 score on Friday at the OSU Softball Complex.
The seven-run margin of victory for the Beavers over the Bruins was the largest for OSU in the 80-game series history.
The win was the ninth in the series for Oregon State and fourth in as many seasons against the storied UCLA program.

The Pilots go to 14-18 (2-5 WCC) while the Toreros improve to 27-13 (5-2 WCC).
The Pilots started the game off on the right foot, plating a run in the opening frame.

(PORTLAND) - No. 12 Washington capitalized on five Portland State errors and junior right-hander Caitlin Noble struck out 14 in the Huskies’ 6-1 win over the Vikings Thursday evening at Erv Lind Stadium.
Noble (10-3) scattered six hits and worked around four walks in going the distance.
Junior shortstop Ashley Charters went 2-for-5 and senior shortstop Nicole Moojen was 2-for-3 to lead Washington’s 10-hit attack.
