OSU Softball Hosts Strike Out Cancer Days Against UCLA and Washington

Beavers host Strike Out Cancer Days this week to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

(CORVALLIS) - osu player photoThe No. 16 ranked Oregon State University softball program will host Strike Out Cancer Days this week when the Beavers host No. 14 UCLA on Friday and No. 12 Washington on Saturday and Sunday.

The American Cancer Society will be accepting donations throughout the weekend and fans who donate will be eligible to win an array of prizes from the OSU softball program.

GNAC Softball: Wolves, Vikings Split Softball Twinbill

WWU gets the 5-2 opener, Wolves blank Viks’ 6-0 in nightcap.

(MONMOUTH) - wou logoWestern Oregon’s Christina Cooke tossed a four-hit shutout, retiring 12 batters in a row at one point, helping lead her Wolves to a 6-0 nightcap win over Western Washington, salvaging a split of a Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball doubleheader.

The Vikings won the opener, 5-2.

The divide leaves the Wolves on top of the GNAC standings with a 7-1 league mark and they are 18-17 overall.

Bearcats Finish Second at Linfield Invitational

Matt Taylor of Linfield won medalist honors with a 74.

(McMINNVILLE) - wu logoWillamette University took second place at the Linfield Invitational on Wednesday, as the Bearcats shot 324 for 18 holes at the Michelbook Country Club.

Linfield College won the tournament with a team score of 305, while Corban College took third at 329.

All three teams had at least one golfer post a score in the 70's.

NBA: Kansas Sophomore Julian Wright Declares for NBA Draft

In the 2007 NCAA Tournament, Wright averaged 11.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.

(LAWRENCE, Kan.) - kansas logoUniversity of Kansas sophomore forward Julian Wright has declared for the NBA Draft.

The 6-8 Chicago Heights, Ill., native averaged 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in his two seasons for the Jayhawks.

An Associated Press All-American Honorable Mention this past season, Wright saw his numbers improve dramatically for KU as he started 37 of the team's 38 contests.

Oregon State Men’s Basketball Signs Michael Stovall of Chicago

Several Illinois-based recruiting websites ranked Stovall as one of the top 10 seniors in the state.

(CORVALLIS) - new osu logoOregon State men’s basketball coach Jay John announced the signing of shooting guard Michael Stovall on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound Stovall was one of the top seniors in the state of Illinois at Marshall High School in Chicago.

As a senior, Stovall led Marshall High in scoring with 20 points per game while also averaging eight rebounds and four assists.

Oregon’s Lilley Invited to USA Basketball U-19 Trials

The team is being assembled to represent the United States at the 2007 FIBA U19 World Championship to be held in Bratislava, Slovak Republic.

(EUGENE) - oregon duck playerUniversity of Oregon head women’s basketball coach Bev Smith announced Wednesday that guard Taylor Lilley has been invited to try out for the 2007 U19 National Team.

Lilley, a 5-6 shooting guard from Newhall, Calif., recently completed a freshman season with the Ducks that saw her lead the Pac-10 and set the school record for three-point accuracy at nearly 51 percent.

She earned Pac-10 All-Freshman honorable mention, averaging 8.3 points per game despite being limited due to a right leg injury during conference play.

PCL: Grand Slam Lifts River Cats to Win over Beavers

Portland starter Jack Cassel (0-1) allowed five runs (four earned) and seven hits in four innings.

(SACRAMENTO) - portland beavers logoJason Stokes hit a grand slam and finished with five RBIs, and Jason Windsor pitched 7 2/3 strong innings to lead the Sacramento River Cats to a 9-1 victory over the Portland Beavers Tuesday night at Raley Field.

Stokes, batting eighth and 0-for-6 going into the game, was 2-for-3, adding a walk and a run scored. His grand slam to left field off Tim Stauffer in the fifth inning gave Sacramento (3-3) a commanding 9-0 lead.

Windsor, meanwhile, limited the Beavers (3-3) to three hits over the first seven innings before the Beavers were finally able to get a run against him prior to his departure in the eighth.

Non-Conference Baseball: Cavaliers Upend Wildcats, 6-5

CU used four pitchers with Ross Conway getting the win after three no-hit innings.

(PORTLAND) - linfield logoMatt McCollum’s balk with two outs in the eighth inning brough in the winning run of Concordia’s 6-5 victory over Linfield in a non-conference game Tuesday.

The loss was Linfield’s third straight overall and brings the Wildcats’ record to 14-13 overall, 9-6 in Northwest Conference play.

McCollum, brought on at the start of the eighth inning, issue a walk to Brennan Ingram and gave up a single to Sean Strachan.

Hansbrough, Lawson to Return to Carolina in 2007-08

The duo announced their intentions on Tuesday night at the team's awards ceremony.

(CHAPEL HILL, N.C.) - unc tarheels logoTyler Hansbrough and Ty Lawson will return to North Carolina next season instead of entering the NBA draft early.

"I've definitely decided that I will be back [for] my junior year," Hansbrough said Tuesday night after the team's annual awards ceremony. "Personally, I'm not ready for the next step of the NBA.

"Playing [another] year with coach [Roy] Williams will help me improve my game individually. There's also some team things that I want to accomplish. College is a great experience for me, and I'd like to be here another year."
