(McMINNVILLE) - Nationally ranked Puget Sound had its hands full defeating scrappy Linfield 2-1 Saturday in Northwest Conference women’s soccer.
UPS improved to 6-1-2 in the conference and leapfrogged Whitworth (6-2-1) into second place when Whitworth lost to first-place , 13th-ranked Willamette (8-1) .
Linfield’s two-game winning streak ended and the Wildcats slipped to 3-5-2, but still have six games to try for their best season since 2003.

(McMINNVILLE) - Linfield junior quarterback, and McKay High School graduate Trevor Scharer passed for a career-high 443 yards and five touchdowns to power No. 18 Linfield to a 37-29 nonconference victory over Southern Oregon Saturday night at Maxwell Field. Five different receivers caught touchdowns from Scharer, who became one of only five Linfield quarterbacks to throw for more than 400 yards.
Linfield (3-2) led for most of three quarters, but had to fend off a second-half surge by the Raiders (2-4) to pull out the home-field victory.
A 7-yard touchdown catch by Tyler Kaluza from Scharer gave Linfield an early 7-0 lead. But the Raiders pulled even with 1:23 left in the half, marching 90 yards following a punt. Kevin Holtzman scored on a 27-yard reception from Casey Mitchell.

(ELLENSBURG, Wash.) - Western Oregon kicked a school-record five field goals and outgained host Central Washington, but still came up a touchdown short during a 28-21 loss to the Wildcats in front of 3,359 fans at Tomlinson Stadium.
Central Washington rode the arm of Mike Reilly, who hit 22 of 32 passes for 314 yards (a season high) and three touchdowns. All three scoring tosses were to Johnny Spevak, who had nine catches on the day for 139 yards, also a career best.
Western Oregon’s Eliot Vinzant rushed for over 100 yards for the 13th consecutive time, gaining 132 on 22 carries. That gives him an even 1,000 yards for the season, making him the only WOU back in school history to rush for over 1,000 yards in back-to-back years.

(SALEM) - Sophomore forward Emily Gross tapped in a shot near the left post to complete a corner kick by Willamette University and senior goalkeeper Kari Woody saved a penalty kick with 1:54 left, as the Bearcats remained in first place in the Northwest Conference with a 1-0 victory over Whitworth College, Saturday at Sparks Field.
Willamette, tied for 13th in the NCAA Division III National Rankings, improved to 11-1-1 on the season, 8-1-0 in the NWC.
Whitworth, ranked #20 in Division III, fell to 8-2-2 overall, 6-2-1 in the NWC.

(CORVALLIS) - The Oregon State and Washington State women’s soccer teams both had stellar defensive efforts, but one play helped the visiting Cougars to a 1-0 Pacific-10 Conference victory on Friday night at Lorenz Field.
“Tonight we are disappointed in the result but not in our performance,” OSU Coach Steve Fennah said. “I thought it was a good game and we played pretty well. We created opportunities to score and their keeper made a couple of outstanding saves on very good strikes on goal. It’s disappointing but it’s the nature of our sport. We put on a good performance tonight against a really good Washington State team but didn’t get a lot to show from it.”

Abby Windell held a block party during the Beavers’ rally turning away the Sun Devils four times.
“I told the team that I am proud of the way they came back in the third game because when you’re down like that it could go the other way,” said head coach Taras Liskevych. “I firmly believe that we can win. If we finish any of those games it turns the momentum and then we’re in the match.”

(EUGENE) - Here’s a first: the Oregon women’s soccer is alone on top of the Pacific-10 Conference.
The Ducks used a couple of quick scoring strikes to run away from Washington 3-1 on Friday at Pape’ Field, and pull ahead of idle UCLA.
Oregon is now 3-0 in the Pac-10 for the first time in school history, and moved to 9-5 overall, tying the school record for victories in a single season.

(WALLA WALLA, Wash.) - The Willamette University Bearcats roared out to a 30-25 win in the first game, but Whitman College rallied to win the next three games, 30-16, 30-23, 30-24, for a Northwest Conference victory at the Sherwood Center.
Whitman raised its record to 8-9 overall, including 4-5 in the NWC.
Willamette went to 4-15 overall, 0-9 in the NWC.
