(McMINNVILLE) - Linfield withstood a spirited rally to defeat Pacific 1-0 Friday in Northwest Conference women’s soccer.
Linfield’s Amber Calcagno scored her first goal of the season, a drive to the lower-left corner from 16 yards in front on a give-and-go play from Chelsey Stoltz 13:32 into the game.
Jenna Johnson-Endo, Meghan Fredette and Laura Hill each had clear shots in the second half, but they sailed wide or high. Kaleigh Stubblefield put both of hers on goal but they were stopped by Linfield’s Allison Cartmill, who made five saves altogether.

(WESTWOOD, Calif.) - The Oregon State women’s swimming team began the weekend by defeating UC Santa Barbara (0-2) 188-144 and falling to UCLA (1-1, 1-0 Pacific-10 Conference) 117-140.
The Beavers (2-2, 0-2 Pac-10 Conference) split for the second consecutive weekend to begin the season.
“We did a very nice job today,” OSU head coach Larry Liebowitz said. “Out first real team got disqualified and that hurt us a little bit because we had to play catch-up.”

(KLAMATH FALLS) - Oregon Tech senior forward Brandy Bocchi scored both goals in the Hustlin’ Owls 2-1 win over Corban at the Klamath County Sports Complex Friday afternoon.
The Owls (9-7, 3-4) spotted Corban (5-11, 3-4) a 1-0 lead in the first half when Tech goalie Jaclyn Unruh got caught to far from the goal and Corban junior forward Megan Waunch drilled home the ball to an open net at 19:53 of the first half with an assist going to Sarah Whaley.
Bocchi nailed her first goal of the game on a header off a corner kick by freshman Sarah Brown just before the first half concluded. For Bocchi it was her her 10th goal of the year. The senior from Klamath Falls didn’t start the game due nagging injuries.

(MONMOUTH) - The Seattle University Redhawks scored only 6:41 in the game and continued with stifling defensive and they shutout Western Oregon 3-0 Friday afternoon at the Western Oregon Soccer Field.
With the win, the no. 11 nationally ranked Redhawks improved to 11-1-2 on the season, 6-0-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
The loss for the Wolves dropped them to 7-7-2 on the season, 0-5-1 in conference play.

The Beavers won 3-1 last year in Palo Alto. (BERKELEY, Calif.) - The Oregon State men’s soccer team improved mightily over last week’s performance, but the visiting Beavers suffered a 1-0 loss to 14th-ranked California in Pacific-10 Conference play on Friday afternoon.
The Beavers (5-8-1, 0-6) lost 5-0 last week at home to the Golden Bears (9-3-1, 4-1), but this one was scoreless until the 85th minute when Cal’s Steve Purdy scored on a 30-yard free kick.
Cal had a 13-6 shots advantage and a 6-1 edge on corner kicks.

(CORVALLIS) - Oregon State fought hard in the third game in an effort to make the match competitive, but Arizona had enough in the arsenal to hold off the Beavers. Brittany Cahoon provided outstanding play for the Beavers but couldn’t overcome an efficient attack by the Wildcats.
OSU’s setback leaves their record at 3-12 overall and 0-6 in the Pac-10. Arizona improves to 10-8 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
Senior opposite hitter Brittany Cahoon had a solid night for the Beavers leading the team with 12.0 points on 11 kills and added six digs.

(EUGENE) - The University of Oregon volleyball team won for the third time in four Pac-10 matches, taking down Arizona State, 3-1, on Thursday night at McArthur Court.
The Ducks (13-3, 3-3 Pac-10) snapped a 16-match losing streak against the Sun Devils (9-8, 1-5), winning by scores of 30-22, 25-30, 30-28 and 30-24.
“We played nervous, but in the end we came through and that was big for us,” second-year head coach Jim Moore said.

(SEATTLE, Wash.) - The Seattle University volleyball team used double-digit kills from four players to beat Western Oregon in four games Thursday night at the Connolly Center.
Seattle won the first two games by a score of 30-23 before dropping game three, 30-27. However, the Redhawks gathered themselves to dominate game four, 30-20.
Nikole Thompson led the way with 18 total kills, while Josie Christiansen chipped in 13 kills, Owena Kauhane had 12 kills, and Libby Graff 11 kills as Seattle outhit Western Oregon .271 to .169.

(SALEM) - Chad Jones practiced all week with a heavy heart after losing his older brother Derek, a Lance Cpl in the U.S. Marine Corps, from wounds received while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar province, Iraq October 8th.
Before the game, fans and players from both Sprague and McNary paid tribute to Jones with a moment of silence.
Both teams carried an American Flag onto the field to honor Oregon and U.S. troops who have died or are currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
