The results were a 2-1 loss to Gonzaga and a 1-1 tie against UNLV. (CORVALLIS) - LOOKING AHEAD — Following a frustrating start to the season, the Oregon State women’s soccer team (0-1-1) will try to get two victories in the win column this weekend as the Beavers host the 2006 OSU Nike Invitational at Lorenz Field on Friday and Sunday. The women get their first official night game under the new lights at Lorenz Field. OSU plays its next five games at home.
GAME #3 — Friday (Sept. 1): Cal State Northridge (1-1) vs. UAB (0-1) at 4:30 PM, followed by Oregon State vs. Northern Colorado (1-0) at 7:00 PM, at Lorenz Field.
GAME #4 — Sunday (Sept. 3): Cal State Northridge vs. Northern Colorado at 11:00 AM, followed by Oregon State vs. UAB at 1:00 PM, at Lorenz Field.

(MONMOUTH) - Tangling with Texans and others: With just enough time to unpack, wash clothes and re-pack, the Western Oregon volleyball team will hit the road again this week for five matches in six days.
Having played a vigorous schedule against nationally ranked teams from the California Collegiate Athletic Association last week, the Wolves will now tackle teams from Texas and beyond at the Alamo City Classic in San Antonio.

(NEWBERG) - Although 2005 was George Fox University’s second winning season in a row and 20th in 24 years under veteran coach Steve Grant, it has been a while since the Bruins played a major role in the Northwest Conference women’s volleyball race.
If the Bruins’ mix of returning veterans and talented newcomers melds together as well as hoped for, however, 2006 could mark a change in that.
With the loss of three starters, including First Team All-NWC hitter Linzi Stolsig and Honorable Mention All-NWC libero Haley Stapleton, the Bruins were relegated to a sixth-place prediction in this fall’s pre-season NWC coaches’ poll.

(EUGENE) - Jonathan Stewart saw the most action of any of the returning backs last season. Stewart amassed 188 rushing years and six touchdowns on 53 carries during 2005.
Fellow sophomore Jeremiah Johnson should also help carry the load at running back during the 2006 season. The Los Angeles, Calif. native showed promise last season by averaging 6.1 yards-per-carry on 24 attempts.
“We will be faster as a team but we still have to prove we can perform,” Bellotti said.

(EUGENE) - OREGON THIS WEEK: The Ducks (2-0, 0-0) hit the road for the first time in 2006 and play three matches in California, starting with Long Beach State on Wednesday at 7:30 PM Oregon also plays Cal State Northridge (Friday, 7 PM) and Utah State (Saturday, 11 AM) in a tournament hosted by Northridge.
ABOUT THE DUCKS: The Oregon volleyball team welcomes seven newcomers and returns six players from last season’s squad, which finished 12-18 overall, 1-17 in the Pac-10 Conference. Among the returnees are SO OH Mira Djuric, a Pac-10 All-Freshman team member in 2005, and SO L Katie Swoboda, who earned honorable mention Pac-10 All-Freshman status.

Seawolves douse Wolves: The Wolves opened the campaign with a 3-0 loss to Sonoma State at home on Saturday. WOU was tied with the CCAA squad after a scoreless first half, but the Seawolves opened things up after the break with three goals during a stretch of 18 minutes to salt the win.
