Ducks Win Again

(NASSAU, Bahamas) - Ducks logoThe offense revved up to shoot 57 percent from the field Monday as the Ducks defeated the Wolverines, a Bahamian club team, 119-56 in game two Oregon’s exhibition tour.

“The team we played tonight was a little better than the one we played the first night, but our offense really clicked,” said head coach Ernie Kent. “We continue to pass the ball so much better that it gives a whole new look and flow to the offense.”

Malik Hairston and Adrian Stelly both reached 20 points for the second consecutive game. Hairston, a junior from Detroit, Mich., led the Ducks with 28 points. He also added seven rebounds and six assists.

Ducks Release 2006-07 Wrestling Schedule

(EUGENE) - The Oregon wrestling team will face two of the most successful programs in Division I wrestling in addition to hosting six home dual meets as part of its 2006-07 wrestling schedule that was released Monday, according to head coach Chuck Kearney.

Highlighting the schedule are back-to-back matches against Oklahoma State and Oklahoma on January 20.

Oklahoma State returns national champion Johnny Hendricks along with a team that struggled early in the 2005-06 season, but rebounded with a strong showing in the NCAA Tournament to take their 34th team national championship.

Hairston Paces Ducks in Bahamas Opener

(NASSAU, Bahamas) - Oregon Ducks' Malik HairstonMalik Hairston scored 20 of his 29 points in the second half to lead Oregon past the Shockers, a Bahaminan club team, 108-69 Sunday in the Ducks’ first of five exhibition games to be played in the island nation.

The Ducks made 45-of-75 field goal attempts overall, despite hitting only 8-of-31 from three-point range. Oregon had 32 assists on its 45 field goals.

“I thought it was a good opening game for us to get our legs back,” said Oregon coach Ernie Kent. “We continued to share the ball exceptionally well and we could have scored even more if we hadn’t have struggled from the three a little bit.”

Game Tempo To USA's Liking In 121-90 Win Over China

(Sapporo, Japan) - USA teamSetting the game tempo from the opening tip, the U.S. (2-0) relied on a relentless defense to help fuel its offensive effort and the result was a very impressive 121-90 win over China (0-2) Sunday night in World Championship preliminary play.

Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat) came off the bench to pace the offensive onslaught with 26 points, the team's youngest member, 20-year-old Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic) posted a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets) also finished with 16 points in the win that improved the USA's record in preliminary play to 2-0.

Defense Rules Ducks First Scrimmage Saturday

(EUGENE) - Ducks logoNick Reed and Darius Sanders combined for eight tackles, including three tackles for loss, as the Ducks’ defense created problems for the offense during the team’s first scrimmage, held Saturday at Autzen Stadium.

“We failed the test today on special teams and I was very dissapointed with our offensive play.” Head Coach Mike Bellotti said. “However, I was pleased with the defensive play, I thought they showed up and they challenged themselves today.”

Volleyball Rolls Past Alumni

(LA GRANDE) - The Mountaineers came out of the gates strong Saturday night and rolled past Eastern Oregon’s Alumni in four games.

In front of a Quinn crowd of 106 the Mountaineers powered their way through the first two games 30-24 and 30-14. Hard hitting and hustle were abundant no matter which six Head Coach Kaki McLean had on the court throughout the night.

What appeared to be a three and out for the Alumni ended when the former Eastern Oregon athletes rallied back to take the third game 28-30.

Beavers Break Camp with Final Scrimmage

(CORVALLIS) - Beavers football logoWith a sizeable number of starters on the sidelines for various reasons, the Oregon State University football team held its last scrimmage Saturday before the Aug. 31 season opener against the Eastern Washington Eagles at Reser Stadium.

The most notable players not in the scrimmage included quarterback Matt Moore, running back Yvenson Bernard, tight end Joe Newton, defensive end Jeff Van Orsow and linebackers Alan Darlin and Derrick Doggett.

“The starters have had a very good camp and we know exactly where they are,” Beaver head coach Mike Riley said after being questioned about the regulars not playing.

New Ducks Football Billboards Going-Up

(EUGENE) - Ducks' players posingThe University of Oregon Athletic Department is pleased to announce the 2006 Oregon Football billboard campaign.

This year, six different designs were created and feature several experienced veterans as the Ducks embark on their 2006 campaign.

The 2006 billboards promoting the Oregon football team will be in place Eugene and in Salem in the coming weeks.

The placements of this year’s billboards are as follows:

Five of this year’s boards will be placed in the Eugene/Springfield area, with the remaining board finding a home in Salem.

Rookie Ducks Rule Women’s Soccer Scrimmage

(EUGENE) - Leigh Quinlan and Adriana Montes both scored twice Saturday to lead the white squad past the green 5-0 in the Oregon soccer team’s first and only preseason intersquad scrimmage.

The Ducks open the regular season Friday night at 7 PM by hosting 28th-ranked Long Beach State at Pape’ Field.

"It was exciting to score a lot of goals, which is something we didn’t do a lot of last year," said head coach Tara Erickson, who is due to give birth to a daughter on Wednesday. "I saw many good things in the attack."
