Salem-News.com Sports (April 11, 2006 00:29)Stampede Face Two Western Conference Rivals This Weekend Salem-News.com SPORTSThe Stampede is back on the court this Friday (SALEM) - The Salem Stampede take on the Portland Chinooks this Friday at the Salem Armory.
Tip-off is set for 7:15 PM, doors open at 6:30 PM.
The Chinooks are coming off a tough California road trip. The Chinooks are 2-3 and hope to get back on track in Salem.
On Saturday, the Stampede go head-to-head with the Tacoma Thunder.
The Thunder have the 2nd leading scorer in the league, Blake Walker, who is averaging 35 points a game.

Salem-News.com Sports (April 11, 2006 00:20)Sisler Shoots Warriors to Season-Low 317 at Corban Three-Way Salem-News.com SPORTSSpringtime means Golf competition for area colleges (LEBANON) - Junior Ben Sisler shot a team-best 3-over 75 in leading the Corban College golf team to a season-low 317 at the Corban Three-Way against Concordia University and Linfield College at Mallard Creek Golf Course.
Despite a solid performance from Corban`s top three players - Sisler, senior Craig Paulsen, and senior Jason Swank - it was not enough, as Concordia shot a match-low 12-over 300 en route to winning the three-team event.
Corban will hit the links again on Thursday, April 20th, when they compete in the Concordia Three-Way with Concordia University and Central Washington University.

(PORTLAND) - Champ Car World Series drivers will be testing their machines at Portland International Raceway on Wednesday and Thursday this week. They are preparing for the Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland coming up June 16th -18th.
Among the 17 drivers scheduled to test are: Paul Tracy, Sebastien Bourdais,who won Sunday's race in Long Beach, Cristiano da Matta, and Bruno Junqueria.
Champ Car testing is from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on both days. Read Full Article

Salem-News.com Sports (April 10, 2006 23:57)Stanford`s Reveno to Replace Holton as Pilots Head Coach Salem-News.com SPORTSA new head coach for the Pilots brings excitement to the University of Portland (PORTLAND) - Eric Reveno has been named the 20th head coach in University of Portland men`s basketball history, announced University president, Rev. E. William Beauchamp, C.S.C. on Monday.
The 40-year-old Reveno, comes to Portland after an impressive nine-year stint at Stanford University. He served as an assistant coach under Mike Montgomery for seven years and was promoted to associate head coach during the 2004-05 season with new head coach Trent Johnson. Reveno, a post player for the Cardinal in the late ‘80s, helped his alma mater to six 20-win seasons, two 30-win seasons, seven NCAA Tournament appearances, an NCAA Final Four in 1998, three years with a No. 1 national ranking, four Pacific-10 Conference Championships and a .768 overall winning percentage.
"We are thrilled to bring in Eric Reveno as our head coach," Beauchamp said. "After a thorough national search, Eric stood out as a perfect fit to come in and develop our basketball program while providing our student-athletes with a quality leader on and off the court..." Read Full Article

SNc SportsThe Salem Stampede, the city’s first professional basketball team kicked-off their first season on Saturday March 18th and won their first league game March 31st in Salem. (SALEM) - The Stampede is one of seven expansion markets added to the IBL-International Basketball League for the 2006 season. The league anticipates a total of twenty-five total teams for this season comprised of teams from all over the country. The IBL, which is based out of Portland, Oregon, is going into its second season as a professional basketball league. The new league boasts a philosophy that combines basketball with, music, concerts, comedy and other entertainment options that will entertain the entire family.
The IBL strives to keep the games exciting and fast with two rules that differ from other pro-basketball franchises: 1) The IBL only allows one timeout per quarter; and 2) the IBL speeds up the time between plays with an immediate inbounds. The result will be a quick game where players stay in a flow. Looking at last season, the average scoring was about 126 points, in around a two-hour game.

(EVERETT, Wash.) - Moises Gutierrez scored 4 goals, 3 of them on the power play, to lead the Everett Silvertips to a 5-3 come from behind win over the Portland Winter Hawks Wednesday at the Everett Events Center.
Everett spent most of the night, especially the third period, in the Portland zone and overcame a brilliant goaltending performance by Portland goalie Kurtis Mucha, who finished with 50 saves in the loss.
Portland led 3-1 after the first period as Mucha stopped 22 first period shots.

Salem-News.com Sports (December 31, 1969 16:00)MLB News: White Sox Podsednik Recovering From Hernia Surgery Salem-News.com SPORTSPodsednik ranked fifth in the American League in stolen bases (CHICAGO) - Outfielder Scott Podsednik of the Chicago White Sox underwent outpatient surgery in Dallas on Tuesday to repair a sports hernia.
Recovery time is expected to last between 6-8 weeks.
Podsednik, 30, batted .261 (137-524) with three home runs, 45 RBI, 40 stolen bases and 86 runs scored in 139 games with the White Sox in 2006. Read Full Article
