Oregon Prison Employee Arrested After Shooting; Holding Police at Bay for Hours

The area was blocked off and neighbors were asked to vacate their homes until the suspect was taken into custody.

(TURNER, OR) - 39-year old Michael Wilson Yann 39-year old Turner resident Michael, an employee with the Oregon Dept of Corrections, was arrested early Sunday morning following a three and one half hour standoff with law enforcement officers.

Deputies & Dogs Search for Missing Silverton Man

An additional search & rescue group is being organized for tomorrow if he isn’t located before dark.

(SALEM) - Michael Dalton Marion County deputies are using tracking dogs and 4-wheel drive Jeeps in an effort to locate a Silverton man who has been missing since yesterday afternoon.

On Wednesday evening, a hiker spotted a 1992 Toyota Camry sedan stuck in the mud on Crooked Finger Road, about 12 miles east of Scotts Mills. He called 911 and deputies were dispatched to check out the car.

Grand Jury Clears Salem Officers in Shooting Death

News Release from the Marion Co. District Attorney's Office

(SALEM, Ore.) - Police shooting Today, a Marion County Grand Jury unanimously found that the police officer shooting of Dru Garrett Larson, on October 17, 2011, was a lawful use of deadly physical force.

The shooting was the end result of a confrontation between Dru Larson and Salem Police that began when officers noticed and attempted to stop a stolen vehicle.

Murder Suspects Held in California Jail Over Fatal Devonshire Apartment Shooting

Both subjects are being detained at the Siskiyou County Jail on murder charges.

(SALEM, Ore.) - 29-year old Nicholas Chavez, and 18-year old Jhosuamil Colon Lebron Detectives with the Marion County Sheriff's Office are continuing their investigation of the Sunday morning shooting that left one person dead. The victim has been identified as 23-year old David A. Polanco, of Salem. Mr. Polanco was found dead at the scene, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.

Witnesses provided detectives with the description of a suspect vehicle and two suspects seen leaving the scene immediately after the shootings.

Death Investigation Now Deemed Homicide

Homicide detectives now investigating death in Marion County.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Homicide scene in Salem, Oregon 13 Oct  2011 Detectives are continuing an investigation into the shooting death that occurred at the Devonshire Court Apartments, on Devonshire Avenue NE in Salem earlier this morning.

Don Thomson, spokesman for the Marion County Sheriff's Office, says, "We are processing a search warrant for the apartment and, once signed, Detectives will conduct a thorough search to collect forensic evidence."

Double Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 22E west of Gates

OSP troopers are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash.

(GATES, Ore.) - Fatal crash Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation into Saturday evening's two vehicle head-on crash on Highway 22E about a half mile west of Gates.

The crash resulted in the death of a man and woman, and non-life threatening injuries to two others, according to a news release issued by OSP.

Woman Killed By Train Near Gervais

Union Pacific Investigators were assisting with the investigation, which Thomson says is on-going. No further information is available at this time.

(GERVAIS, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Marion County deputies have identified the victim of a fatal train vs. pedestrian collision early Saturday morning, as 53-year old Anna Emerikov, of Gervais. Her family has been notified. No information has been developed as to why she was on the tracks.

Marion County Sheriff spokesman Don Thomson, says deputies responded to a report of a train versus pedestrian accident on the Union Pacific tracks one mile north of Gervais, at approximately 2:00 a.m. Saturday.

Marion County Sheriff`s Office Canine Program Receives $20,000 Anonymous Donation

(Salem, Oregon) - Deputy Shawn Bush with Max The Marion County Sheriff's Office Canine Unit received a $20,000 donation from a Salem resident on Friday morning.

The donor, who wished to remain anonymous, contacted the Office last week inquiring about donating money to assist with the purchase of a police canine. After meeting with Sr. Deputy Skip Lumley, who is a former K9 deputy and Lt. Bob Stai, who is the head of the K9 program, he made the decision to contribute to the program.

Dallas Man Missing on Willamette River

(Dallas, Oregon) - Salem-News.com Today at approximately 11:52 am the Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to a water rescue call on the Willamette River approximately one mile south of the Buena Vista Ferry. Also on scene during the initial response were Marion County Sheriff's Office, Salem Fire, Polk 1 Fire, Jefferson Fire, Albany Fire and the Oregon State Police.
