Abandoned Boats Found on Valley Waterways on The Rise in Marion County

If you are caught by police setting a boat adrift in a waterway with the intent of abandoning it, you could be charged with a crime.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - boats The warmer weather is here, and family summer vacation’s travels to Willamette Valley waterways are not that far away as well. However, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office says they want people visiting local waterways to be aware of a growing and very dangerous trend -- abandoned boats.

Shane Burnham, Marine Patrol Sergeant says these boats cause an immediate hazard to swimmers and boaters, and they also can draw an emergency response from law enforcement and fire officials.

Teen Arrested for Threating to Blow Up School

The suspect's residence was searched and no bombs or bomb making materials were located.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The Marion County Sheriff's Office was called to the Oasis Brooks Program a local school in the 10000 block of 71st Avenue NE on Wednesday. Staff reported to deputies that a 14-year-old student threatened to blow up the school after becoming upset with teachers.

According to the investigator, Deputy Colby Korte, "In today's climate we have to take any threat against a school seriously."

Salem to Recieve Funding to Redevelop Brownfield Sites

Salem to get $200,000 in community-wide hazardous substances grant funds that will be used to conduct up to eight Phase I and four Phase II environmental site assessments.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley announced Thursday that five Oregon communities will receive $1.55 million in new funding from the Environmental Protection Agency to redevelop brownfield sites.

The grants should create good-paying, green jobs while allowing each city and county to accelerate the redevelopment of the brownfield sites.

Southbound traffic will be restricted to a single lane for a short distance one mile north of Albany (MP 236), as contractors remove and replace approximately 20 cubic yards of contaminated soil.

BREAKING NEWS: Wrong Way Driver Causes Crash on Highway 22 West of Salem

All lanes are now open. Police have yet to release any new information on the accident.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Police, along with the Oregon State Police, and Salem Fire and medical units are on the scene this morning of a serious injury accident involving what police say was a wrong way driver.

Salem Police tell Salem-News.com that Highway 22W eastbound near Rosemont Ave NW is CLOSED at this time, as there are multiple vehicles involved in the crash.

City of Salem Updates State Street and Court Street NE Slurry Seal Work

There will be several short lane closures that will affect traffic and parking.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The asphaltic slurry seal scheduled to be completed at selected locations on State Street and Court Street NE has been delayed due to weather concerns. The work has been rescheduled for the week of June 2 through June 6, 2014.

(SALEM OR) - traffic safety In the midst of the current "Click It or Ticket" campaign running May 19 - June 1, Oregon State Police, county sheriffs and local police agencies urge local and long distance travelers to be aware of the increased enforcement efforts during the Memorial Day Holiday weekend.

Starting 6:00 p.m., Friday, May 23, troopers will focus enforcement efforts on encouraging vehicle occupants to buckle up; keeping impaired drivers off the road; and deterring distracted and dangerous driving behavior.

Witnesses: Veteran Took Final Police Bullet to Head on Her Hands and Knees, Execution Style

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ford's death is on-going and is led by the Oregon State Police Major Crimes Division.

(SALEM) - 25-year old Jacklynn Rashaun Ford, a military Veteran, was shot to death by a Salem Police officer. UPDATE: It has been discovered that Jacklynn Ford was not a Veteran.

Salem Police are two for two. Officers in Oregon's Capital city have killed people in the line of duty twice in two weeks. They also had an officer unleash a deadly taser in recent days on a man with Asperger's Syndrome.

25-year old Jacklynn Rashaun Ford, a military Veteran who liked to wear her dog tags in pictures, was shot to death by a Salem Police officer named Trevor Morrison who was also a canine officer. Apparently the dog wasn't enough to subdue the woman during a traffic stop, it required multiple bullets.
