Fatal Truck Accident

The incident is being investigated by the Salem Police Department's Traffic Control Unit.

(SALEM OR) - On Thursday, August 8, 2013, at 9:50 p.m., Salem Police responded to Coleman's Transport at 4370 Turner Rd SE on a report of a male being struck by a truck.

When officers arrived, they found a male identified as Gary Coleman (59 years old) deceased underneath a semi-truck/tractor in the gravel lot at that location.

Update-Missing Juvenile Found

Matthew's family expressed their appreciation for the help provided them in looking for their son.

(SALEM OR) - Matthew Giddings The parents of Matthew Giddings reported that they had found Matthew walking along Liberty Street NE, headed toward Keizer on Monday evening.

Matthew told his parents he had been staying at a runaway shelter in downtown Salem and hanging out at the skateboard park on Front Street during the days.

PETA Asks to Place Chicken Statue at Site of Deadly Truck Crash

Group Aims to Remind Haulers of Their Responsibilities When Transporting Animals as Well as the Public of the Suffering of Birds Raised and Killed for Food

(SALEM) - PETA says the 250-pound statue reminds livestock haulers to take extra precautions with their live cargo,and that chickens are among the most abused animals on the planet. This morning, PETA sent a letter to Kevin Hottmann, city traffic engineer of the City of Salem, asking him for permission to erect PETA's 5½-foot tall statue of a chicken at the intersection of Commercial and Division streets.

It is the site of a July 9 crash of a truck that was hauling more than 5,000 chickens to slaughter, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of birds.

(UPDATED) Two Men Injured in Salem Shooting

Deputies say the shooting happened on Lancaster Drive SE, near Durbin Avenue SE, in Salem, after an altercation between the occupants of two vehicles; one occupant fired at the other vehicle, striking both victims.

(SALEM) - Shooting in Salenm, Oregon 7-20-13 Two people were treated at the Salem Hospital following a shooting that occurred at about 6:39pm, Saturday.

The Salem Police Department received the initial call, but it was later determined that the shooting occurred in the county's jurisdiction.

Blaze in Salem Sends Firefighter to Hospital

(SALEM) - Fire in Salem Oregon 7-11-13 A three alarm fire in Salem was initially reported at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

A number of fire units responded, including two ladder trucks, several fire engines and two medics.

Two Prison Inmates Escape, Captured by Police

Willis and McComas escaped Friday night after walking away from Mill Creek Correctional Facility in Salem.

(SALEM) - McComas and Willis Today at approximately 12:15 p.m., Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers arrested an escaped prison inmate named Tyson McComas near SE Mildred Lane and SE Box Canyon Street.

The arrest came after receiving a citizen's tip of a person matching the description of the escaped inmates. The second escaped inmate, Shane Willis, was believed to be in the area.

Inmate Charged in Stabbing Death of Another Inmate

The victim was serving a 30 day sentence for Contempt of Court.

(SALEM OR) - Suspect, 42-year old David Ray Bartol The victim inmate stabbing victim in the June 4th assault that occurred in the Marion County Jail died from his injuries at about 8:45 p.m., Sunday night.

A press release issued by the Marion County Sheriff's Office indicates that the victim, 33-year old Gavin Lee Siscel, was only serving 30 days on a contempt of court charge.

Three Oregon Prisons Targeted by Bomb Threats (VIDEO)

Three Oregon prisons have been targeted with bomb threats. Law enforcement is responding. The Oregon Department of Corrections says they're taking steps to ensure the safety of the staff and adults in custody while the police are investigating.

(SALEM) - OSP in Salem On June 5, 2013, beginning at approximately 12:50 p.m., the Oregon Department of Corrections received three bomb threats. The Oregon State Police have been notified.

At approximately 12:50 p.m., Oregon State Penitentiary, located in Salem, received a phoned-in bomb threat.
