Jessica Ellis was a highly decorated combat medic who died three weeks after receiving the Purple Heart.

(BAKER CITY, Ore.) - A soldier who served with honor in the 101st Airborne Division was laid to rest in Oregon and she will be sorely missed by countless family members, loved ones and friends both in Oregon and Iraq.

24-year old Jessica A. Ellis wasn't just a soldier; she was a medic. Her job was keeping people alive in combat and reports indicate that she did it time and time again with valor. She died from injuries resulting from a blast from an improvised explosive device, or I.E.D., that struck her vehicle in Baghdad, Iraq.

37-year-old Ben Howard Kelly, from Eugene, was caught and arrested by Oregon State Police after his ride. Court records show that Kelley, pleaded guilty to careless driving and recklessly endangering another person by operation of a motor vehicle.

I think of the myriad fatal crashes I have covered in my twenty years as a news reporter and photographer, and all the tragedy and grief that accompanies them.

Fortunately, I do not have to go to these incidents anymore; not very often anyway. Instead, police in Oregon have become extremely helpful to the news media by sharing photos of the crash scenes that they already take for their investigations.
