Salem Police plan Kick Off party for National Night Out

They want to encourage citizen participation.

(SALEM, Ore.) - National Night Out The Salem Police Department Crime Prevention Unit announces its third annual National Night Out Kick-Off Party to be held Tuesday, July 21, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall atrium just outside the police department.

Salem residents are invited to attend to help boost community enthusiasm about hosting a neighborhood block party for National Night Out, which is Tuesday, August 4th 2009.

U.S. Congress Ends Decade-Long Obstruction of D.C. Medical Marijuana Law

Changing times in the nation's capitol.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Washington D.C. at night The U.S. House today passed legislation that removes a decade-old provision that has prevented Washington, D.C., from implementing the medical marijuana law passed by 69 percent of capital voters in 1998.

Known as the Barr amendment, the provision has forbidden the city from extending legal protection to qualified medical marijuana patients and has been derided by advocates for years as an unconscionable intrusion by the federal government into the District's affairs.

New Interior Secretary `Clear-cuts` Bush Era WOPR (AUDIO)

Interior Department officials would not offer a timeline for a new forest plan, although they say they've already been to Oregon to look at recent and pending timber sales.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Logging truck The Western Oregon Plan Revisions (WOPR) have become the latest Bush administration edict to be set aside by the new administration.

The forest management plan for more than 2.5 million acres was called "indefensible" and the science behind it "tainted and distorted by political pressure" in a Thursday news conference. The plan would have increased timber harvests on federal land in 16 Oregon counties.

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue reminds all residents to be aware of possible overloading of electrical circuits. And encourages home owners to unplug appliances when they are not in use.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Fire in Hillsboro, Oregon 7-16-09 Early Thursday evening the neighbors of Jesse and Sonja Sanders called 9-1-1 to report a fire at the Sanders home on 2107 SE Currin Lane in Hillsboro.

Bruce Montgomery with Hillsboro Fire, says the Sanders had left for church just minutes before smoke was spotted coming from a window on the south side of the house. Hillsboro fire crews were dispatched at 7:27 p.m.

Happy Vally Stabbing Murder Suspect Arrested

Ruben Ateaga was arrested for charges of Murder and second-degree Assault.

(VANCOUVER, Wash.) - Handcuffs Clackamas County Sheriff's Office detectives arrested the suspect believed responsible for the July 12th stabbing murder in Happy Valley. Clackamas Jim Strovink says the arrest was made Thursday around 5:45 p.m., "with the generous cooperation of the Vancouver Police Department."

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Police shooting Portland Police are investigating a shooting that happened tonight at approximately 8:00 p.m. Detective Mary Wheat with Portland Police, says an officer was driving in the area of the 8200 Block of Southeast Division and heard gunshots.

"A citizen then flagged down the officer and told him that someone had just been shot and provided the officer with information concerning the vehicle involved in the shooting."

Police Say Man Stabbed Wife in Head During Domestic Argument

The victim was transported by ambulance to OHSU Trauma Center in serious condition.

(TUALATIN, Ore.) - Stabbing incident Tualatin Police responded to a report of a domestic argument and stabbing at an apartment in the 6700 block of SW Childs Road, in Tualatin today at 2:25 p.m. Neighbors reported hearing a male and female verbally arguing.

"Tualatin Police arrived and knocked on the front door of the apartment. Upon observing the police officers through the window located next to the front door, the male suspect ran to the back of the apartment and stabbed the victim one time in the head with a knife."
