Iran Frees Roxana Saberi

Several Iranian-American citizens, including journalists, have been arrested in Iran in recent years but Saberi was the first one to be tried and given a jail sentence.

(TEHRAN, Iran) - Roxana Saberi The U.S. journalist who has been behind bars in Iran for five months, 32-year old Roxana Saberi, is free today after an Iranian appeals court suspended her eight-year prison sentence on charges of spying for the United States.

MSNBC reports that Saberi, who is a dual Iranian-American citizen, met her parents outside Evin prison Monday evening following the court decision to release her.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Woman texting What are the electronic manufacturers and marketing guru's trying to do to our fair society? Weren't things bad enough before texting became the unexplainable phenomena that it is?

I was driving down the freeway last week in Portland and when I looked at the BMW in the lane to my immediate right, I saw that the driver was busy texting away without an eye on the road. I'm sure this driver has no ill will toward the world, but if he hit somebody and killed them, would it be any different from a DUII?

UN Says Urgent International Scrutiny Needed in Sri Lanka

UN Rights Experts say shipments of food and medicine to the so-called ''no-fire zone'' have been “grossly insufficient” over the past month.

(GENEVA) - Civilians fleeing the no fire zone in Sri Lanka. A group of independent United Nations experts today called on the Human Rights Council to urgently set up an international inquiry to address the “critical” situation in Sri Lanka amid fighting between the army and Tamil rebels.

“There is an urgent need to establish an international commission of inquiry to document the events of recent months and to monitor ongoing developments,” the experts dealing with summary executions, right to health, right to food and water and sanitation said in a joint statement issued in Geneva.

Small Boy Falls From Railroad Bridge in Washington

Clark County Sheriff's Office investigates fall from train bridge involving a 4-year old child‏.

(BATTLE GROUND, Wash.) - Railroad tracks A small boy was severely injured this morning in the Battle Ground area when he fell from a railroad bridge, approximately 30 feet to the ground.

Sgt. Mike Cooke with the Clark County Sheriff's Office, says deputies and Fire District 3 personnel responded to a residence in the Battle Ground area of Clark County at 7:40 a.m. on the report of a seriously injured 4-year old boy.

California Issues Amber Alert Over 18-Month Old Boy

AMBER Alert Issued for 18 Month Old California Boy‏

(POMONA, Calif.) - 33-year old Francisco Rodriguez is the suspect in the disappearance of an 18-month old boy. The State of California issued the Amber Alert Sunday morning after the boy was reportedly abducted in Pomona earlier Sunday. No further information about the incident or circumstances is available at this time, police said.

The missing boy, Alexis Rodriguez, an 18 month old Hispanic male. The suspect in the case is 33-year old Francisco Rodriguez, an Hispanic male, who is five foot eight inches tall, 170 pounds, with brown hair and eyes.

Mother’s Day and the Women in Our Lives

Call me sentimental, but I can’t help but offer items of tribute to my mother, and just a few of the better memories.
