Residential Property Values Fell $2.4 Trillion During 2008 According to Newly Released Data

Salem home prices decrease.

(SALEM, Ore.) - For Sale sign Home prices across the country declined 11.1 percent in December 2008 compared to a year ago, and the total value of residential properties for December 2008 was $19.1 trillion, down $2.4 trillion from $21.5 trillion in December of 2007, according to First American CoreLogic and its LoanPerformance Home Price Index (HPI).

In Salem, home prices have decreased 8.98 percent in December compared to a year ago.

Cops Bust Suspected P2P Chemical Seizure (PHOTOS)

(CANBY, Ore.) - P2P meth bust in Canby, Oregon 2-4-09 Police say a multi-agency investigation involving the Mid-Columbia Interagency Narcotics Task Force (MINT) and Canby Police Department led to the seizure of suspected methamphetamine-related chemicals and materials at a rural Wasco County home that would yield approximately $2.7 million of methamphetamine.

The eight-month investigation reportedly led detectives from MINT, Canby Police Department and Oregon State Police on February 4, 2009 to serve a search warrant at 365 NW 4th Street in Dufur.

Fifty-Two Percent of New Recruits in 2008 are 20 or Younger

National Priorities Project (NPP) finds a drop in age among new recruits, an over representation of low- and middle-income individuals, an increase in Black recruits and a decrease in Hispanic recruits.

(NORTHAMPTON, Mass.) - Army basic training A new NPP analysis notes a significant drop in age among new recruits. NPP research also uncovers a continued over representation of recruits from low- and middle-income families, an increase in Black recruits, decrease in Hispanic recruits and important education trends.

This work is a result of an expanded NPP initiative, which now includes a database of 2004-2008 military recruitment numbers broken down by zip code, county and state.

Police Plan DUII Saturation Patrols

The annual Newport Seafood and Wine Festival is being held in Newport during the weekend, and Highway 20 has historically had a lot of traffic.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - OSP cars On Friday, February 20, 2009, and Saturday, February 21, 2009, the Benton County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with the Oregon State Police, will participate in a DUII saturation patrol.

The focus will be on Highway 20, between Corvallis and the Lincoln County line.

Marine and Army Units Will Deploy to Afghanistan

Marine and Army infantry units will supplement existing forces.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - American soldier raises his weapon on patrol in Kabul, Afghanistan, Nov. 2006 Pursuant to President Obama's decision today, Secretary Gates ordered the deployment of two additional combat units, totaling more than 12,000 troops, to Afghanistan.

The 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB), from Camp Lejeune, N.C., with approximately 8,000 Marines will deploy to Afghanistan in late Spring 2009.
